While it was good and commendable that Jonathan went to the creeks to persuade the militants to drop their weapons and save the economy, it could also be that they had an understanding and they were well known to him and nobody alleged that he was their sponsor. However, in the case of Buhari and Boko haram, allegations were rife at that time that he was sponsoring the terrorists. It might have been for this reason that he turned down their request as he didn't want to be associated with them as would have been the case if he had represented them in a talk and succeeded.
