Nigeria is a land of many wonders, but this one takes the cake if factual. 

Can anyone confirm if this is just another baseless wild rumour, or is there is truth to the story making the rounds that some Nigerian politicians from the south-west of the country have sent out kidnapping squads to harvest HUMAN HEADS which they intend to use for rituals designed to help them win elections on the upcoming 2007 polls ?

Are things coming to a head in Nigeria ? Talk about doing anything to get ahead, or of keeping ones head while others are losing theirs, or of getting a head-start on the competition. Damn, so many puns come to mind that my head is literally swimming and I just know I'm in way over my head on this subject.

No surprises. It a culture

one thing that surprises me about these ritual murders is the way nigerians dont seem to care until its they or their children that have been killed.can you imagine what it feels like to have your head cut off.forget d physical pains and think of what would b going thru your mind.i watched an al-qaeda in iraq video recently on the beheading of nick berg[its all over d net,search 4 it] and i couldnt sleep for over three weeks except at daytime.it was that horrific.d young man struggled badly and created the most hideous image i've ever seen.even when his head was connected to his body by just a little skin,he was still struggling.
u can imagine how much of that is happening everyday in nigeria.i was even surprised wen jakumo mentioned south-west[meaning yoruba].i always thought it was more of my tribe[igbo].now you can see the numerical scale.not to mention some south-south tribes that are also into cannibalism.there is not much we can do but we can at least take it very seriously.put yourself[or loved ones] in d position of those who have died like that.i know how europeans would react if it was on their soil.they always imagine that it was they who was killed and take appropriate action.
where i come from[in iboland],there are businessmen,politicians and generally well-known guys,who even little children know exactly how they make their money.these men socialise and have fun like normal people.you cant accuse them because of their police and hangers-on[otimkpu],so everyone generally keeps quiet.every once in a while you would hear of children gone missing or one mother raining curses on her child's kidnappers/killers etc.i think its about time we finally address it squarely as an urgent national problem to save lives in future.u never know who could b next.

Doncartel it is reassuring to see that there exist Nigerians who are shocked and horrified by the ROUTINE murder, decapitation and dismemberment of innocent victims throughout Nigeria, and who are baffled that even in the year 2007, as enormous advances in science, technology and medicine are being recorded by civilized nations of the West, Africa still harbors large numbers of people whose intellectual capacity remains so atrophied that they actually believe it possible to conjour free un-earned cash from human cadaver parts, and more alarmingly, are prepared to commit murder repeatedly in a futile effort to acquire wealth through performing or funding the ritual butchery of human beings.

This silent murder industry continues to thrive in many areas of Nigeria even as the country launches its first communications satellite into orbit in a bid to be recognized as one of Africa's  technological power-houses.  This ironic juxtaposition of scientific advancement and barbaric regression remains one of the supreme paradoxes of the Nigerian reality.

Yes, I too had recurrent nightmares over the filmed Al-Queda decapitation of Nick Berg, but I shudder with primal revulsion to think that similar scenes are repeated DAILY in Nigeria with no end in sight, and to no practical real-world purpose other than to stoke the fires of terminal ignorance and wanton savagery in Africa.

and it is further fueled by the non chalant attitude of nigerians. very sad indeed.
