Prior to the resource and land decree by the Federal military govt issued after the civil war, regions were expected to keep 67% of their internally generated revenue with the central govt taking 20% and the rest 13% shared to other regions in the spirit of one Nigeria.

Today we see the oil producing Niger Delta being accused of being greedy for demanding more than 13% of their oil wealth.

It is also important to note that this 13% derivative is a recent development introduced by the Obasanjo govt during its last term in office (around 2006).

Another point to consider based on the old sharing formula of 67% to states is how this totally debunks the myth that cocoa and groundnuts from both the SW and Northern region was used to subsidize the nation.

As the sharing formula clearly shows this wasn't the case as every region kept 67% of their resources and only contributed 37% to the National treasury.

So isn't it ironic that the demands for better sharing formula by the ND is dismissed as a sign of laziness and greed by the north and SW?
