Past Government Refused To Save For The Rainy Day – Buhari by papayeye: 7:42pm On Jun 27, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria is
paying dearly for incompetence in managing high
revenue that accrued from oil, particularly over
the past decade, and for allowing the decay of
critical infrastructure.
Speaking at the State House, Abuja, Monday,
while receiving the Chief Global CEO of Unilever,
Mr Paul Polman, the President said his
administration was working very hard to change
the structure of the Nigerian economy battered
by several years of mismanagement.
”We refused to save for the rainy day. Now the
rain is beating us. No money, no savings, nothing.
And we are thoroughly wet from the rains,” he
said.
President Buhari said Nigeria was paying the price
for turning herself into a mono economy, but
assured that the country would soon be able to
feed herself, and even export, with the current
emphasis placed on agriculture.
He assured that the Federal Government would
fast-track the implementation of strategies to
ease doing business and attract more investors
into Nigeria.
“We want to create jobs, and supporting
manufacturing is one way to do it. As soon as we
have stabilized our budget, I would personally be
interested in the manufacturing sector,
particularly in the generation of essential raw
materials,” the President said.
The Chief Global CEO of Unilever said the
conglomerate had been in Nigeria for 93 years,
making it the oldest manufacturing concern in
the country.
“Our products are more Nigerian than other
Nigerian brands. Despite the economic downturn,
there are opportunities to further advance our
business here.
“The situation to invest and continue to invest
here is very encouraging,” Mr Polman said,
adding that Unilever had invested about N15
billion in Nigeria in the past three years.

That's precisely why you won the election...

Blaming past government after a year in office only means buhari and the APC are clueless about how to fix the country

I pray for wisdom for this government

Thank you all. Not everyone is stupid as the coupist thinks. Is he not ashamed of himself for going to England to treat ear infection? Maybe he has not been hearing the clamor for change that some thought he would magically do at his age

Its very saddening to see that into buhari's second year in office buhari is still pointing at past administrations. It clearly shows that the man lacks the compass for moving the nation forward.
Many past govts had inherited worse situations(lower foreign reserves, lower crude price, etc) but never for once did we hear so much heap on past govt as we are hearing right now.
This govt should stop living in d past and face the present. Campaign has since ended

PMB should know by now that the problem of this country is far far above his thinking capacity. He should therefore resign honourably and quickly to save this country from further m£ssn.
It's the only sacrifice nigerians need at this trying period caused by PMB economic hollowness.

Zombies please with the help of a loudspeaker sound it to PMB's ears that he should stop contemplating borrowing that $50 Billion which is N14 trillion plus, because we are not ready to mortgage our today and the tomorrow of our children because of the ineptness of one man.

Always magnifying Nigeria's economic, political and sociocultural upheavals just to underplay his administration's incompetence and naivety. I have never seen a leader (a septuagenarian for that matter) who's so comfortable blaming others for his own ineptitude. He magnifies every situation to draw the sympathy of Nigerians and the rest of the world. This man will go down as the worst president Nigeria has ever produced if he continues in this ignominious blame games. What a leader!

If this man is still playing blame game after one solid year of his tenure, then we are really in a very deep mess. Someone needs to tell him to sit his ass down, shut his mouth & get to work. You were elected to come & salvage our predicaments as a nation. And if this is too much for you, we will be willing to receive your letter of resignation. Iranu...

Leaders blame others to hide their low performanace and incompetent.
Everybody knew that the only major CV the president has b4 election is that he is from the north.

This is already becoming stale... If the past government refused to save, then you start saving because it hasn't even started raining.. The rain will start when oil hits an all time low of 10 dollars per barrel

Lool I pity for Nigeria...
What Jonathan did would take years to overturn and and the only miracle that can save us is oil to hit $100 and the other is to diversify the economy which will take a minimum of 10 years...
We really need to understand that's there is no miracles here and please it's no blame game but the simple truth

U sound full of hate and lacking basic economics principles
We will have to blame Jonathan for 10 years if things(oil price) don't improve that's the effect of failing to save
Now let me explain this to u and I hope u remove hate and understand
U are a man and sole bread winner of the family and u work and get paid an unfixed money per month.. . Between 2010 and 2014 u recived more money than ever before and instead of saving u were buying expensive Cloths for ur kids, taking them to dubai and buying fleet of cars, u didn't invest this money... Fast forward to 2016 u are now being paid amount bearly enough to feed and ur family is asking u to do something what will u do??
At least Buhari is asking people to come and develop his lands he inherited since he can't do that at least that will bring small money to maintain the house

Hope u understand now

In 1999
Obj inherited: foreign reserve $1b
Oil price $19/barrel.
A battered economy.
oil price never exceeded $50/ barrels in his 8 year tenure.
Yet he moved Nigeria forward; cleared our foreign debt, increased work force etc.

In 2015
Buhari inherited : foreign reserve $33b (with ECA n SWF)
Oil price $62/barrel
Fastest growing economy in Africa
Third fastest growing economy in the world
Oil price dipped shortly to $28/barrel then rose to $50/barrel presently.
Yet he's put Nigeria in d worst economic mess of its existence; millions out of job, federal civil servants payed half-salary, prices of goods n services on an all time high.

Buhari has no excuse for failure but incompetence.
He inherited a sound structure to survive this plung in oil price; TSA, IPPIS, e-wallet agric policy etc
If he can't stand the heat he should leave the kitchen.
