RIP to Elechi Amadi. You may be gone but your works live on. And Igbos, stop acting like Ikwerres are the holdersbof your collective destiny, we cannot hold you guys back from achieving National/international relevance and recognition.. We, Ikwerres are confident in being Ikwerres and do not see our colleftive destiny being influenced negatively by not being Igbo. 2 Likes |

Omoluabi16: But that book title, you are sure Ayi Kweh Armah did that? I know Niyi did something on that title though. Which secondary school did you attend? I got to know Armah in Uni when my lecturer mentioned him. In sec school, I read books by Eunice Nsirima, Elechi Amadi, Wole Soyinka, Chinua Achebe, Onuora Nzekwu, J.P. Clark and others. 2 Likes |

HopeAtHand:Really!? You guys are so funny on NL. It is only on Nairaland I see unnecessary tribal wars that does not exist in the real world. When I read some comments here I create the picture of some serious war taking place in PH but walk the streets of diobu now and you'll find relative peace and tranquility there and there's no mention of igbo and ikwerre and Kalabari people are busy doing their thing. Not to mention the Ogoni guys. You all should just wake up and get a life. Stop all these petty quarrel and show the late Amadi some respect on this thread. 1 Like 1 Share |

Omoluabi16: Inferiority complex suffering yoruba man, is it your business what Igbos say they are? Will Igbos foam in the mouth, if yorubas say they are the gods that created the milky way. You want to promote yourselve but Igbos should not do so? Rather they should allow you revision their history for them? Jealous yoruba man, how does the bitter leaves in Onugbu soup destroy the Ewedu leaves in your soup. Ok Igbos are the most 'useless people in the milky way while yoruba are best thing after sliced bread', I've made you happy , now go throw an owambe party. 4 Likes |

dreamwords: My brother, it is obvious that the lady reason from her anus. African names are part of our heritage. Amadi is answered almost all over Igbo land. Ikwerres are not important to the Igbos. They have decided to stop being Igbo but that wouldn't change history and facts. Ikwerrea used to be Igbos! 1 Like |

Don't you people get tired of this silly Igbo-Ikwere argument? if people want to embrace a different identity, they should have that right to self determination. I find the Ikwere arguments dissociating themselves from their Igboid identity as a tad delusional (a movement that exploded after the Civil war), but you can't force acceptance on people. They find greater advantage (like some of the Delta state folk with similar identity crisis) in alliances with other minority groups in their oil-rich states. Leave it as it is and stop tearing up yourself over it. It's not that important. 3 Likes |

ClassCaptain: I was sixteen when I stumbled on this novel from my fathers collection.(1995) Elegant writing style I must say! It's been 21 years since I read it but I still can remember every character from Wodu Wakiri the wag to Ekwueme the main character. As I read through the novel I could perfectly visualise every scene. 1 Like |

Elechi Amadi will always be remembered as a prolific writer. The literary world will miss him. Politically, he will be remembered as a serial and monumental liar surpassed by only Lie Mohammed. He was among the elites that put the resources of river state in the hands of the Northerners. Portharcourt was opened up as a result of coal from Enugu coal mines. The whole old eastern region was formally known as the Bight of Biafra/Bonny. So, Yorrobers and Bini people should keep their ewedu mouth away from Igbo matter. What exactly Elechi Amadi achieved by his insane and illogical denial of his Igbo identity is still unknown. RIP (R)Elechi (R )Amadi ! 1 Like |

"the spirit of death was known to take away people's lives shortly after midnight. That was when Ekwueme died" I have never been able to forget the last lines from the concubine. Elechi's clear and precise writing style, Ekwueme's unconsummated love for Ihuoma, Ihuoma's tragic life story and man's inability to subdue the gods. Elech Amadi's Concubine remains my best African novel till date. Goodbye great writer. RIP |
