Wike Established The First Port Harcourt Polytecnic In Rivers State by Nobody: 7:20pm On Jul 06, 2016 |
In line with his campaign promise, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Bar Nyesom wike has established the first port Harcourt polytechnic in Rumola Portharcurt Rivers state Nigeria.the process began on june 4th 2016 when the Governor passed a bill to Rivers state house of Assemble, to change the name of Rivers state collage of Arts and Science (RIVCAS) to Port poly,. the Bill which brought a lot of critics from Ken Saro wiwa polytechnic bori was later accepted and went for second Reading. On 27th June 2016,the RSHA invited the General public for public Hearing of the Bill. On 28th june, the Bill was implemented, which gave birth to the New Port Harcourt Polytechnic. Port poly has a lot of History The Port Harcourt Poly is a tertiary institution owned by the Government of the Rivers State of Nigeria. It is located in Rumuola, along Rumuola Road in the heart of Port Harcourt City, Nigeria’s oil industry hub and the Capital of the State. Established by Nigerian Federal Government in 1977 as Rivers State School of Basic Studies (RSSBS), it became the Rivers State College of Arts and Science in 1991 (RIVCAS) by virtue of the Rivers State College of Arts and Science Law 1991. On Monday, 4 July 2016 (significantly, the American Independence Day), the Governor of Rivers State, Chief (Barrister) Nyesom Wike, gave his assent to The Port Harcourt Polytechnic Law 2016 that formally effected the conversion of the College to The Port Harcourt Polytechnic. The Polytechnic was recognised in 2006 by the Nigerian National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). NBTE has also accredited several Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) Courses offered by the Port Harcourt Polytechnic. This is not first polytechnic in Rivers state, the is RivPoly Bori, ogoni . This is not new but upgrade of Rivers College of Arts and Science to Polytechnic. |
