Buhari’s govt a threat to Nigeria’s unity’

Ovie Okpare, Warri

The Ijaw Youth Council on Thursday faulted President Muhammadu Buhari for saying that the unity of Nigeria is not negotiable, insisting that the future of the country deserved to be negotiated.

The group also accused the Buhari administration of threatening the unity of the country through its style of governance.

In a statement by its spokesman, Eric Omare, the IYC said Buhari’s approach to governance was old fashioned and had not yielded the desired result for the country.

It said, “The circumstances of the present day Nigeria demand a renegotiation of the future unity and existence of Nigeria.”

The IYC said all ethnic nationalities in the country were in support of calls for talks about the peace and unity of the country.

“This demand is not peculiar to the Niger Delta but cuts across all parts of the country. For Nigeria to make progress, President Buhari should dump his old fashioned approach to the unity of Nigeria and face the reality of the present day situation,” it said.

“Nigerians want a renegotiated Nigeria that reflects a true federal state and allow people to grow at their own pace.

“Nigeria as presently constituted is suffocating and the federating ethnic nationalities can no longer bear the suffocating effect of the defective structure which hampers the development of the country. It is in the interest of all Nigerians to renegotiate the future unity of Nigeria.”

The Urhobo Monitoring and Development Group has expressed concerns about recent appointments by Buhari.

The National President, UMDG, Prince Kingsley Oberuruaria, told our correspondent that the President’s appointments were tainted to favour northerners and Muslims saying such actions unnecessarily create ethnic and regional tension.

The group specifically took a swipe at the recent constitution of the board of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation for blatantly refusing to give oil producing communities of the Niger Delta region sense of belonging in the management of resources from the area.

“We are still shocked with President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments so far. The truth is that such actions are not palatable. Our region where the oil and other resources that feed the nation are coming is being neglected both in appointment and development, and this government is not helping matters,” Oberuruaria said.

“The Urhobo has annihilated from Nigerian government and this is not fair for us as a people. Buhari should look inward and correct these injustice against our people in the Niger Delta if he actually means for this country.”

Buhari himself is a threat to Nigeria. APC is another threat. There is no difference between buhari and the German dictator Hitler or his Italian friend Mussolini. Also no difference between APC and the Nazi party. Lai muhammed has become the APC josep goebbels ( the nazi minister of propaganda). A president that preaches so much hate, tribalism, nepotism ethnic chauvinism and all other evils. We all know how the Nazis ended because of the iirrational mentality of their leader. That ugly fate would soon befall buhari and his co evil party conspirators. angry

Nnamdi Kanu is really God sent! I daresay he opened the eyes of the old Eastern Region that had gone to sleep! Beyond d myopic grandstanding of those that claim he was making hate speeches, every word from his mouth about this godforsaken union has proven true! He has sown the seed of revolution and he will be alive n free to celebrate the outcome of rapid growth and development in our homeland ie d old Eastern Region.

It is good that different groups are beginning to speak up. Soon, that unifying need for survival, development and excellence will trump all d fake lies of 'one Nigeria.'
Restructuring and regional autonomy must come especially since Federal Character is no longer 'fashionable' just to please d base desires of one parasitic region in this country.

He want an argument between igbos and ijaws to derail the thread seeing that both seem to align to the negotiability of the union

No Nigerian President will openly admit that the unity of Nigeria is negotiable. Every Head of State since independence has always echoed the rhetoric of the indivisibility of Nigeria. Even Jonathan, an Ijaw man like members of the IYC, said this also in his address to the 2014 National Conference delegates. The reasons for this stance are quite obvious.

Buhari is a man with superannuated ideas. He is really lacking in the character of a statesman. He is divisive both in actions and in words with scant regard for the feelings of other parts of Nigeria. He will go down in history as a leader who promoted ethnic chauvinism above national unity.

A united one Nigeria is not possible under a Buhari presidency because he's not a nationalist but divisive, bigoted, nepotic and he lacks the capacity to lead a diverse society like ours.

His holier-than-thou attitude whilst having an estate in Abuja(which he's yet to prove is not proceeds of corruption) coupled with certificate forgery issue is nauseating.
