If oloye picked Olusola because of a chance for education, why did he name his kids bukola, gbemi and lanre?

For them to get educated in a christian school too? You'd also have to wonder when olusola, bukola, gbemi and lanre became Christian names cheesy

One can almost not ignore them- like some tiny pesky bug in a humid day.

You see, all that agitation nonsense is nothing but a tool used to distract, disrupt and sabotage the government. That is why one of them who wrote that piece earlier today opined that Kanu is nothing but a fraudster and iPod is nothing but a fraudulent enterprise.

But they would NEVER accept that- the pirate radio station has radicalised them so much they could hardly string two sensible ideas together.

It is a damn shame how a major ethnic group has stooped so low as to become subservant to almost all minority groups and certainly all major groups.

Shame...

Actually you should be more ashamed of yourself and your existence.

You ought to be in Benue state now chasing away fulani cattle from your father's bedroom where they are about to finish eating up your rusty pillows and matrass mistaking them for sweet brazillian grass provided for fulani cattle by your lord sai baba.

How pathetic can you get? Even the Yorubas who support buhari here will not waste time to condemn the herdsmen if they strike on Yoruba soil but your case is miserable and hopeless. You have never condemnded the murderous herdsmen that continue to kill and rape hundreds in Benue but always present on every Igbo thread splashing smelly black spit every where.

Better go and salvage whatever of your father's properties you can before everything you have worked for in your sai baba life gets eaten up by large fulani cattle. Lmao.

I am sure even the Yorubas here are ashamed for you but will never tell you, lolz.

OBJ was a powerless man in prison. He had no powers whatsoever.

Yorubas were powerless as well, if they were not, Abiola wouldn't have died.

It's ridiculous for Yorubas to say that the North that refused to give up power to Yoruba after your useless protests in Lagos were quelled by the North and didn't do nada to change Abiola's fate, will now turn around to now give away power on a platter of gold to Yorubas because of Abiola? I mean what's the worst Yorubas could have done? Start another round of protests and be pacified with force all over again by the North.

Power concedes nothing without demand, Yorubas had and still do not have the wherewithal to demand power from the North, Abiola protests and it's futility proved that already.

OBJ emergence had nothing to do with Yorubas, OBJ is a pipette the Caucasian powers brought in to do their bidings that Abacha had started resisting.
The North had to step aside.

Yoruba alliance with Kwara cannot win a national election, the Igbo and core North will nullify that, Awo already tried that with UMBC and it failed.

Nobody is or was afraid of Yorubas, the whole country had seen your worst during Abiola protests, and it was easily contained.

Stop deluding yourselves.

We do not ask for people to be afraid of us, never has.

Fear mongering is an art peculiar with Ibo and is why you call everyone else coward because your political and social view is structured around physicallity.

What bothers the senses is why your physicality and fear mongering is not winning you victories but Yorubas, your so called cowards, are a bloc of political strength in Nigeria and are indeed the only Southern race that Northerners fear upsetting.

Let me tell you about Abiola... Aare Ona Kankanfo of Yorubaland!

Abiola was offered a deal. Did you know this?

Abiola was offered a deal to surrender his electoral mandate and victory in exchange for release from prison. He choosed death over surrender.

We do not label ourselves brave but we are going to let the world see if you are justified in calling us coward.

If Yoruba was the one agitating for Biafra we would have secured alliance and guarantees of security from neighbouring peoples and use it to advance a permanent and irreversible treaty from the Nigerian nation by this time. It is so because our resolve in advocating liberties and social advancement is credible and reliable and every ally know without doubt that in victory Yoruba carry others along. We are an asset!

The same cannot be said of Ibos. You are a liability and risk to associate or tie one's political future to. Insteadof looking for allies you are busy calling people cowards.

Lets see how far your bravery will carry and bring Biafra into fruition. Keep at it!

There's Boko Haram and Fulani Herdsmen from the North, our brothers from the East are clamoring for Biafra while our kinsmen from South have Avengers. There seem to be one particular thing from each region from Nigeria that threatens it's peace and harmony except the Western region. We in the Western region have peace and harmony.

Our desire for peace and harmony runs through our vain and was passed to us by our great father's fathers down to us. But our unquenchable thirst for peace should not be misunderstood for weakness, instead it should be seen as a sign of strength; strength born out of wisdom and uncommon knowledge. Our great fathers before us know and we that are here now also know that the value of peace is of inestimable value and that is why we will always be ahead of them and that is why our land will be the point of convergence to all other region when they need neutral ground.

Our peaceful state makes it easy to think and reason "Omo Yoruba Ronu" and that makes us see what they are yet to see. The unity we clamor for is not for our sake alone but for the sake of everyone that is still within this nation as at this point in time.
The south wants to go, the east wants to go. May heaven and the universe punish and never forgive any Nigerian leader that will sanction that move, because it will be hard to see people we once call brothers to end up suffering and in disarray. South Sudan got it's independence 5 years ago and today there are over 1.6million South Sudanese that are displaced, more than 850 thousand registered south Sudanese refugees in other nations while more than 270 thousand are displaced inside Sudan itself. What baffles me is that the people that are suffering the most are those who don't know the genesis or the reasons for the disintegration. Those who called for it are in good conditions and leaving like kings and queens.

If you are Igbo(east) or from the Niger-delta (South) you should ask yourself some critical questions. Why fight a war you know nothing about, do you know the origin of the agitation apart from those your parents told you?
Will those who tell us to fight and protest on the street boldly come out with their wives and kids to demand for what we are demanding for?
Ojukwu ran when the going got tough, Tompolo is on the run as at now too, Asari Dokubo built his private university in another nation...Will those people telling you to do what you are doing run when the going gets tough again?

There are mechanisms to running a nation and those should be put in place first before going if it becomes compulsory and necessary to go. If any of the two regions leave Nigeria as at now it will be a successful suicidal attempt. The leaders that will be leading those nation will be the same leaders who have been and are still currently looting their allocations and eating what belongs to those regions. Those regions have governors, senators and representatives if they will lead them well in their future nation then we should see the signs without stressing our eyes now " Sunday to ba ma dara, ale Saturday lati mo"

We can and we will surely make it together as a Nation. No other black nation is arguably better than us even in our mess, now imagine us in our greatness or when we are operating at our rightful potential. Our population and diversity is in itself a blessing and I don't mean to be rude when I say a rightful working Nigeria will be rubbing shoulders with USA UK France, all we need are leaders who genuinely love us and splitting won't provide any region with the perfect leader.

Ya when you live in New York, its cool to compare yourself with Sudan once in a while.
The South east is a cesspit, the Niger delta is fvcked, the SW peace has made Lagos the center of Excellence.
Those states are hungry and broke, they can no longer attract FDI unlike Lagos, why do you care?
They are not cowards, they are tough, they must be prepared to explain their stup!dity today to their next Generation.

Paul Anber's essay "Modernization and Political Disintegration: Nigeria and the Ibos" published in the journal of Modern African Studies vol. 5, No 2 (Sep, 1967) 163-179. See pp 171-172 for excerpt:
" '' A system of Universal primary education was introduced in Eastern Nigeria in 1953, though the mission schools had already prospered in the Region long before then. Despite the fact that there was a requirement for limited contributory fees, education continued to be very much in demand. Even at the time when universal primary education was first introduced, the percentage of the population over seven years of age who were literate was higher in the East than in any other Region: East, 10.6 per cent; West 9.5 percent; North, 0.9 percent. Since 1959, the East has had more teachers and pupils than any other area of the country, with the heaviest emphasis on primary education. Figures for elementary and secondary education indicate that the approximate ratio of teachers to population in 1963 was 1 to every 1,500 in the East, 1 to every 2,500 in th West, and 1 for every 10,000 in the north. Other statistical data reveal how rapidly the standard of living rose among Ibos. The East had the most extensive hospital facilities in the country by 1965, the largest regional production of electricity in the country by 1954, and the greatest number of vehicle registrations by 1963. The economic orientation of the Ibos was also reflected through membership of credit associations:in 1963 the East had 68,220 individual members, the west 5,776, and the north a mere 2,407." ''... His source was the Annual Abstract of Statistics ( Federal Office of Statistics, Lagos, 1965)

In order words, Awo's introduction of Free Universal Primary Education was for the western region to catch up with the eastern region...

It always amaze me that they always claim first in education yet, the first VC's of UI,UniLag and yabatech were all igbos.

When ever i reflect on chinua achebe's quote on why other nigerians despise the igbo, I can but just say this man was a prophet....

Everything he wrote that happened then is just beginning to repeat itself....talking about burst of energy by the igbos

I have written in my small book entitled The Trouble with Nigeria that Nigerians will probably achieve consensus on no other matter than their common resentment of the Igbo,” he wrote under the heading, A History of Ethnic Tension and Resentment. He traced the origin of “the national resentment of the Igbo” to its culture that “gave the Igbo man an unquestioned advantage over his compatriots in securing credentials for advancement in Nigerian colonial society.”

He observed that the Igbo culture’s emphasis on change, individualism and competitiveness gave his ethnic group an edge over the Hausa/Fulani man who was hindered by a “wary religion” and the Yoruba man who was hampered by” traditional hierarchies.”

He therefore described the Igbo, who are predominantly Catholic, as “fearing no god or man, was “custom-made to grasp the opportunities, such as they were, of the white man’s dispensations. And the Igbo did so with both hands.”

He delved into history with his claim, asserting that the Igbo overcame the earlier Yoruba advantage within two decades earlier in the twentieth century.

“Although the Yoruba had a huge historical and geographical head start, the Igbo wiped out their handicap in one fantastic burst of energy in the twenty years between 1930 and 1950.”

He narrated the earlier advantage of Yoruba as contingent on their location on the coastline, but once the missionaries crossed the Niger, the Igbo took advantage of the opportunity and overtook the Yoruba.

“The increase was so exponential in such a short time that within three short decades the Igbos had closed the gap and quickly moved ahead as the group with the highest literacy rate, the highest standard of living, and the greatest of citizens with postsecondary education in Nigeria,” he contended.

He said Nigerian leadership should have taken advantage of the gbo talent and this failure was partly responsible for the failure of the Nigerian state, explaining further that competitive individualism and the adventurous spirit of the Igbo was a boon Nigerian leaders failed to recognize and harness for modernization.

“Nigeria’s pathetic attempt to crush these idiosyncrasies rather than celebrate them is one of the fundamental reasons the country has not developed as it should and has emerged as a laughingstock,” he claimed.

He noted that the ousting of prominent Igbos from top offices was a ploy to achieve a simple and crude goal. He said what the Nigerians wanted was to “get the achievers out and replace them with less qualified individuals from the desired ethnic background so as to gain access to the resources of the state.”

Abiola was offered nothing. The military had the powers to take away his mandate, they need not offer him any conditions, he was not in position to make conditions, power takes whatever it liked, the Northern junta had power, his Yoruba people sold him out for Money, the Igbo could care less. Abiola died a forgotten man, everybody moved on especially the Yorubas, after their street protests yielded no fruit, they sold out and went about their businesses

Yorubas are not feared by anyone, least of all the North, the caliphate sits on Ilorin and were probably going to subdue the rest of Yorubaland , if not for the coming of the colonials.
I have come to see that the average yorubaman is delusional.

Yorubas don't want fragmented Nigeria because they fear they can't make it alone, they dread facing their Northern masters alone in a post fragmented Nigeria.

The North keeps making threats of annexing the rest of Kwara should Nigeria fragment, I'm yet to see Yoruba reply to that.

Politically too, you are naive and are treacherous, and had not really fared better than Ndiigbo, over all, in Nigerian politics.
