VIKRANT aircraft carrier pics during her build

the indians r kind of foolish , i simply dont understand why they dont go for more than 1 number for the given class of aircraft carrier .

they should have built atleast 2 of this type inorder to full exploit their capabilities, building single vessels of a type is expensive and does not help in terms of rapid and sustained capability augmentation when the no of ships in service r dwindling fast.

Have you any considered the logistical demands of corps sized conventional attritional warfare? Lets look at the heaviest battle of the Pacific,Okinawa,1945-the Solomons,New Guinea and Burma were all a dress rehearsal.
A 100K US servicemen invaded the IJA 32nd army and within 2 months lost 75K including,KIA,POW and MIA!! The Japs under Lt.Gen Mitsuru Ushijima suffered nearly 100% KIA,with only 7k captured. They destroyed 60% of US tanks and sunk 36 ships.
Kamikaze pilots before their last flight. An idea of the terror they caused-how many rounds do you think are airborne in that pic?

US forces fired and dropped nearly 100k tons of ordnance and 37k gallons of napalm within the 2 months practically shaved every brick standing atop the other. Everything had to be completely rebuilt post war.

this is something most people dont bother with becz it aint sexy grin

Logistics or Supply Chain Management is the most important and critical element in winning the war. "Reinforcement" is an often used word in warfare that can only be achieved with sound Logistics.

a definite must read is " Moving the mountains" by Gus Pagonis.
Gus was in-charge of the Logistics division during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. If one thinks that it was Norman Schwarkopf etc who won that war, he is wrong.
It actually was Gus who won the war for the Coalition forces.

True! I don't think I've seen a post on battlefield logistics anywhere-correct me if I'm wrong. During the Okinawa campaign the fighting was so heavy the US commander, Lt Gen Buckner was KIA in an arty strike. His forces fires over a 1000 TONNES DAILY! Imagine the unrep ships, amphibs and trucks purely devoted to logistics.
Btw,we've been shown G5s and -6s many times-how many reload vehicles are in a battery? 61mech,patchesagain,mikecza,pls come in.

117S - afterburning turbofan engine with variable axisymmetric vectoring nozzle (deep thrust-life modernization of the AL-31FP engine) was recently tested by IAF on their SU30MKI aircrafts

117S engine has been created by NPO Saturn (Luylka Design Bureau) for Su-35 multirole fighter developed by Sukhoi Company. Geometry and mounts of the 117S engine are similar to its predecessors, i.e. AL-31F and AL-31FP engines.

Such high parameters are attained thanks to application of:
new high-tech LP compressor with increased air consumption and efficiency
high efficiency turbine with increased reliability and improved blade cooling system
new digital engine control system integrated to aircraft flight control system

Engine 117S
Maximum afterburning thrust, kgf 14 500
Combat mode thrust:
full afterburning thrust, kgf 14000
maximum dry thrust, kgf 8800
Ultimate service life, 4000hr

IAF recommended reducing thrust to prolong service life to 6000hr and the Russians will return / respond after necessary deliberations to the request.

all this is part of the SUPER SU30 MKI programme to bring it at par with or even exceed SU35 capabilities

The estimated cost for this upgrade is 12 Billion dollars for the first 50 aircrafts

Suspended in the air, at the Department of Atomic Energy's Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC) here, this gizmo, resembling a scaled-up thermos, works silently amidst a labyrinth of tubes under the watchful eye of a computer.

Its makers claim it is India's first indigenously-designed advanced cryogenic technology reaching temperatures slightly toasty than the very, very cold world of space.

Technically the cryogenic device is called a dilution refrigerator. It can provide continuous cooling to temperatures as low as 2 miliKelvin (-273.148 degrees Celsius). This is roughly how cold space is. The technology developed at the Helium Technology and Low Temperature Physics lab at VECC dips down to about a relatively warmer 50 miliKelvin.

Dilution refrigerators are essential for applications in quantum computing (cooling computer chips), photonics and spintronics (emerging field of nanoscale electronics), condensed matter and nuclear research -- and much more.

"India is now the world's eighth country to have designed a dilution refrigerator reaching 50 miliKelvin in the laboratory. India procures dilution refrigerators from Germany, the UK and other countries. Under the recent thrust on Make in India we have attempted to do something which has not been tried earlier in the country," VECC scientist Nisith Kr Das told IANS.

Proudly explaining the importance of each component, Das said not only does the device showcase a technological advancement for India's indigenisation, it is also a huge confidence booster for the country's scientific workforce.

"It is a milestone in India for cryogenic research," Das said.

While the market price of an imported dilution fridge is around Rs 2.5 crore ($387,000), the production cost for the VECC initiative is around Rs 1.2 crore.

"We will provide all support if it is commercialised and adopted for production. The price will also go down when it is produced on a larger scale," Das said.

The innovation is documented in the Current Science journal. Jedidiah Pradhan, Bidhan Ch Mondal, Anindya Roy, Z.A. Naser and Pradeep Kumar are the co-authors of the paper.

Trawling through four years of research data, patent information and expert advice, the birthing process of the refrigerator has been immensely challenging, the researchers said. More so because of the frivolous nature of liquid helium, which lends the machine its cooling power.

"Liquid helium at the temperature creeps out and so we had to ensure the entire system was leak proof. Moreover, the device was suspended in the air to prevent any vibrations from causing unwanted heating and evaporation of the helium," co-researcher Pradhan said.

"The cryostat (cold chamber component of the refrigerator) was mounted on a stainless steel-supported structure with air spring and suspended in the air below ground level," he added.

According to Das, all of the components (including the heat exchanger and tubing) were fabricated and assembled bit by bit at the VECC lab.

"However, we had to purchase the vacuum measuring apparatus from abroad," said Das, adding that currently, in India, a dilution refrigerator purchased from Leiden Cryogenics, The Netherlands, is available at Mumbai's TIFR.

The lab is now exploring the realm of cryogen-free dilution refrigerator which cools down samples to even lower temperatures without the need for liquid helium.

Damn!

How accurate are the bombings and what sort of instrumentation does it use?

these r dumb bombs so mostly CCRP (Continuously calculated release point) mode using radar .

as for accuracy

why do u think there is P in CEP (circular error of probability) ? grin

probability means the chances of an event happening . which using reverse logic implies that accuracy is a dynamic factor influenced by cross winds , temperature, pilot skills etc etc and is not fixed . accuracy/CEP is calculated under test conditions, in real life accuracy/CEP will vary depending on the external influencing factors totally detached from the ' test condition accuracy/CEP ' of the bomb itself.

long story short
i dont know about the accuracy /CEP of dumb bombs released by SU30 grin grin grin

Nemesis2u, what's your opinion on the Norwegian army and their special operations units?

They seem to be very well trained for such a small country. Almost comparable to the Finns who faced the Soviets in 1939.

I read, can't recall from where, Norway SF train Polish GROM.

OK, that's cool. Still it provides an area for further research by me.

Any photos available showing the entire bomb load Russian, Indian or Malaysian?

I know all HUDs appear this why, but what extra benefits do the wide green HUD(Rafale,Rafeal HUD as seen in some SU-30, Gripen, F-16 block 52, F-22, Eurofighter) provide over the plain slender type HUD as seen in the (most SU-30, Mirage-2k, Hornet/Super-Hornet, JF-17, LCA, L-15)?
