Buhari Govt’s 45% Electricity Price Hike Illegal, Court Declares by ozoigbondu: 2:17pm On Jul 13, 2016
The Federal High Court Ikoyi has declared the 45 per cent tariff increase by the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) as illegal and has directed its immediate reversal.
The court said on Wednesday that the implementation of the huge increase constitutes a violation of its interim order.
The court awarded N50, 000 cost against NERC.
The Nigeria Labour Congress which has opposed the price hike described the ruling as “courageous and deserving of commendation”.
“We also consider it victory for the ordinary Nigerian who has been crushed by exploitative bills,” a statement by the NLC’s president, Ayuba Wabba, said.
The labour congress urged NERC and DISCOs to obey the judgement and revert to the old rates without further delay.
The electricity commission raised the tariffs which took effect despite a resolution of the National Assembly and a restraining court order against the policy

Toh! I wish they would reverse the hike but I doubt it. This government does not listen to the courts.

Hallelujah.

Abeg when are Nigerians getting a refund on the illegal increment. It's even better we stop further payments till the accounts are balanced.

They didn't obey the National Assembly, nor the Court; what makes you think they'd obey this time?
I guess the only language govt understands is protest.

Fashola was aware of a subsisting order against hike in electricity tariff on assumption of office but still went ahead with the increase. The man is obviously been controlled by a wicked and oppressive demon. How someone derives pleasure in making life difficult for others is a mystery to me.
