History is a very important subject which unfortunately nobody pays attention to, in Nigeria.Bob Marley once sang a song that if you know your history you will know where you are coming from and going to.Great historians also believes that history has a way of repeating itself after every 20,30,50 or so years and so based on this fact i want to draw an analogy between the present political climate and what we may expect to see in future based on purely historical facts.Olusegun Obasanjo handed over to a government that was later overthrown by Buhari and a yoruba man named Idiagbon. They were sponsored financially and technically by a yoruba man named Abiola and a military man named ibrahim babangida respectively .During his take over speech in 1983 buhari mentioned some of the reasons for taking over as corruption, cluelessness on how to run the economy,Weak leadership from the president, maitasine insurgency in Borno state.FYI shehu shagari was never indicted of anything inspite of all his ministers did.He was peace loving as a president. He was against any form of bloodshed of innocent nigerians because major mustapha jokolo former emir of gwandu mentioned in his interview with daily sun in 2006 that people gave shagari information way before time that his government was about being overthrown but instead of taking action he urged that the coup should not be bloody.Buhari took over and there is no much difference between what he did then and what he is doing now.If you are in doubt google babangida's coup speech and compare it with what is happening today. For the purpose of this piece,i want highlight the role of buhari, abiola and babangida in buhari's millitary regime and juxtapose it with what happened 30 years after.Buhari took over power in 1983 with the financial backing of abiola and a coup detat technically executed by babangida.Buhari assumed power and treated these men with scorn. He even started a probe against ibb on that gloria okon issue.A nairlander did his nysc in old plataeu in 1985 and he mentioned here that they celebrated throughout Jos, buhari's ouster after 18 months in power because his policies made life unbearable for nigerians.Fast forward to thirty years after.OBJ handed over to a government that had almost the same characeristics as Shagari's.Remeber Jonathan mentioned that he accepted defeat because he didnt want bloodshed.Buhari in 2015 with a yoruba man took over power on the same premise he overthrew Shagari and he is implementing almost all the policies he did back then joined with the fact that he is presently not in good terms with his chief benefactors Tinubu and Saraki ie before he traveled for the ear infection treatment he told Tinubu that he was not the national leader of apc and that there are many national leaders in the party. He is in court with saraki now with criminal charges.I did this analogy last year and told my friends that history favoured buhari to win the elections but they didn't believe me.Let us analyse the role of the previous and present actors in Buhari's government then and now.Tinubu played the role abiola played for buhari in 83.While Saraki has some striking similarities with IBB ie Saraki is a man from the north central bearing a yoruba name while IBB is a man from north central bearing Badamasi.IBB and Saraki do not believe in fighting corruption. Both men love igbos.Saraki made many igbo people in ilorin multi millionaires, same with ibb. Both men played pivotal roles in their own times in bringing Buhari to power.Buhari paid those men back by prosecuting them. Both men are coup specialists while IBB did his own in the millitary way saraki did his own democratically to get the senate presidency.By Febuary next year Buhari will be 18 months in power. Will history repeat itself again?I dont know but i heard Saraki is planning to go back to PDP.This piece is not my personal opinion but pure historical facts and you can make your own deductions from it.

Thanks OP! I really like your historical analysis and the final conclusion you made.

Firstly, I will like to point out that Saraki is already the 'President' of Nigeria because of present position is holding. Nomenclaturely speaking, somehow, the name 'President' is been attached to him, and as such the history as favour him. BUT had it been he is NOT POWER DRUNK and over ambitious; try to get the Senate president with all crookeness in the world! but rather WAIT for his time, paraventure he might have succeeded Buhari in a way beyond human comprehension.

For me, the MORAL lesson in this, is that one should NOT be over ambitious, with PATIENT one will get whatever one is longing for in life. And You know IBB spent good eight years as Head of State/President, so also I see the current TREND follow same path. Saraki still holding unto same Senate president position while Buhari hold on to POWER.

My deduction is that SARAKI lack of wisdom and over ambitious has completely robbed him off of ever assuming president of Nigeria and Buhari spirit of PATIENT and submission of NOT taking the path of trying to remove Saraki by fire and force might have helped him to elongate his time in office albeit saraki(IBB) eight years of presidency. In nutshell Buhari is indirectly correlated with IBB preresidency now historically, because of GREEDINESS and IMPATIENT of Saraki.

This further lead us to interesting deduction that history favour IGBO PRESIDENCY come 2023. How?

You will recall that IBB presidency was brought to halt because of serious protest from South specifically south-west and because of that agitation led to Solenkan becoming president from SW. I see similar scenario playing out here if IGBO toll the path of PATIENT. And I believe based on historical antecedent, POWER will be seceded to the South-east mimicking south west agitations of 1993/94 representing perhaps 30 years cycle by 2023.

Although these are NOT cast in stone but we can DEFINITELY LEARN from history. It is ease connecting dots looking backwards, and obviously HISTORY does REPEAT itself.

PS:Op I followed you up because of your post in travel section on Adjustment of status. Thanks.

The most annoying thing about this post is the LIE that Nigerians hated Buhari/Idiagbon regime. Why most Igbo kids accept lies is a mystery to me. The comfortable lie is preferred to truth by most of them. Buhari is President today because of the Buhariz/Idiagbon regime of the past. IBB regime was a scandalous regime. Gloria Ok on was just the smallest issue, they killed Dele Giwa, they stole heavily, they devalued currency without taking IMF loan which was punishment without payment and they annulled elections. Why kids in a new generation can't see the evil and degeneracy in all these is a mystery. As for Saraki. Looting a bank your father passed to you, managing Kwara, many corruption issues and you think he will be President. Nigerian uouths are not judt lazy, they are aldo stupid and cowardly when thry see truth
