Why are we hiding from the truth? Nigerians are more comfortable in Ghana because they are treated well. South Africans prefer whites to blacks; they are more like racist to smaller countries around them. I can't imagine a European country demonstrating/killing other European citizens for taking their jobs.

@ yeswecan
unfortunately they inherited this rightwing capitalist resentment from the apatheid era(nationalist party). it will take time.

This is not to excuse our Nigerian brethren who are causing havoc over there, but advocating killing of people like animals is inhuman.

I wil not stand for that.

With over 5mil illegal immigrants streaming in yo country freely. The fg seemingly turns a blind eye . . . hmmm i wonder how ordinary nigerians would have dealt with that!

^@Thando

You should ask why the gove is seemingly turning a blind eye. Could it be capitalist interests.
Re: Why Nigerians Don't Tap Into South African Market? by Rebarobyn: 3:37pm On Sep 24, 2009
true, it gives me great concern how the SA people complain about illegal immigrants and crime being committed by "foreigners" and your govt is not doing anything about it, i.e. the drug retailers- we know SAPS arrests them everyday but somehow they still get released because their files or evidence goes missing, why? its simple, the SA law enforcers- SAPS, immigration, border patrol etc are corrupt. Unless SA purges its law enforcement of corruption, illegal immigrants will continue to flood your country and drug business will flourish.

Well said Rebarobyn but I hope things will change.

The sad thing is that most people here keep on refering to Xhenophobia without looking at it's scale. It happened toa couple of townships and that doesn't reflect the whole of South Africa. I have been a member of nairaland forum for ages and that shows the interest I have in Nigeria and there are other South Africans who are living peacefully with the Nigerians. The effects os apartheid will take long to be dealt with and the frustration of people not getting employed while the ANC promised that jobs will be created for South Africans have created the hatred of illegal foreigners by Souh Africans because they being hired over South Africans but againt the government should put in place stringent laws of balancing employment of illegal foreigners and the locals. I blame the government for Xhenophobic attacks especially the Thabo Mbeki regime which was only looking after their own interests and failed plenty of South Africans.

Yes, foreginers have experienced Xhenophobia but the same thing happens amongst South Africans as well in a sense of people from one province believing that only people from the dominant ethnic group in that respective province should get employed or even get free houses. At the moment there is a tense environment between Xhosas and Tswanas in North-West province of South Africa and all this is as a result of apartheid.

Thabo was educated in a capitalist society and saw the successes this system had in its enviroment, Please you should also add that during his tenure SA saw its highest economical success post Apatheid era,Equittabel land redistribution among wthnic groups that were disenfranchised the creation of a middle class black elite in the country as well as the and crease in the GDP per capita.

Yes there was a neglect of growing social tensions which led to a push for more socialist agendas to balance the equation however only time will tell if these agendas will actually strengten the nation of cause even more problems.

You can't solve poverty by simply giving the poor money to spend.

puleza, i will give a short response to your question. the reason you don't see big Nigerian business in RSA is mainly because the nigerian investors are more comfortable with the higher return margins that investing in economies like the one they have at home(Nigeria) give. that why you also see them in Ghana, Uganda et al also because this markets are easier to enter as the are more virgin and the have less competition to compete against. also the have better policies to attract business men like them to those countries which RSA is seeming not willing to give them. Nigerian business men are good if there is demand they will go there to supply i assure you.

@puleza

dont come here to open a thread, and start back amused at how it has degenerated

go ask the south african consulate why,and ask your south african people why

after all there are more than enuff millionaires in nigeria, that can venture abroad and invest if they choose

anyway nigerian companies are capturing markets in west and east africa,so maybe they have their hands full for now
