The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai has visited wounded soldiers and 3 staff of the United Nations Agencies and other international humanitarian organisations that were injured during an ambush by suspected boko haram terrorists. The Chief of Army Staff who was accompanied by the Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, some Principal Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters and the Acting General Officer Commanding 7 Division, interacted with the wounded soldiers and civilians, encouraged them and wished them speedy recovery. He equally commended the doctors and the hospital staff for giving necessary care and treatment to the injured. Earlier, the Army Spokesman, Colonel Sani UsmanTroops had disclosed that troops returning from Bama on humanitarian escort duty, were ambushed enroute Maiduguri by suspected remnants of boko haram terrorists hiding in Meleri village, a few kilometres from Kawuri. “The gallant troops however, successfully cleared the ambush and exploited up to Afunori”. “Unfortunately, 2 soldiers and 3 civilians were wounded in the ambush, among who were staff of United Nations agencies and other international humanitarian organizations”. All the injured men were admitted and being treated in the Accident and Emergency Ward of the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital in Borno State. “It is gratifying to report that they are in stable condition and responding to treatment”.
