no govt in nigeria have any justification to prob a doctor of negligence when the govt itself have not provided the hospitals with necessary medical gadgets
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by yjay(f): 10:49am On Sep 23, 2009
I dont know but i dont think the doctor shld ve been jailed! I would like to believe that Mrs. Obasanjo probably did some research before deciding to go for the procedure probably from friends who ve had some work done etc she must have been fully aware of the complications involved in the surgery or maybe not cos i remember that her birthday was just some weeks short of when she had the surgery & that got me thinking how she thot she cld be fine before her b/day, i mean for someone her age the risk is higher, the recuperation process is slower. i can almost say for a fact her doctor must ve told her likely complications that may arise for someone her age maybe heart attack etc not saying she deserved to die but its pointless to send him to jail! Everyone knows the risks involved in these surgeries.

Yjay
If the doctor knew the risk was too high what he could have done was refuse. Na greediness lead him to jail.
If that is the way life is, then i might as well start my own surgery afterall anybody that comes in and lose his life should be blamed for not researching me wellwell never mind that I have a duty to protect my patient!

Let me ask you a question
If I go to let say Sainsbury and I buy expired food (even though I knew but pretended I didn't cos it was too cheap) and get food poison, who will be blamed me or sainsbury?

I watched a particular episode of Dr. 90210, and the doctor was going to do a tummy tuck on this 60 yr woman & he told her that the risk is higher especially for someone her age but other than her being hypertensive which he cld manage i guess he said he ddnt see any reason why he cldnt go ahead with the surgery, he did say though that he had to be very fast while performing the surgery as according to him spending a longer time cld be to the detriment of the patient, so he was quite gruesome the way he carried out the surgery. he did the surgery, the patient obviously gave her consent before he carried out the surgery, the doctor must ve told her he cld manage the situation & well it was a success but for some others like Mrs. Obasanjo, Kanye's mum & many others the story doesnt always ve a happy ending!

Yjay what you don't get is she died of negligence and carelessness on the doctor's part. The mistake could have been easily avoided
""The court heard that a tube used for removing fat had been placed by mistake into the patient's abdominal cavity - puncturing her colon and lacerating her liver""""
Mrs West died of heart complications, Mrs Obasanjo died because of carelessness.
Hope you get it now?

come to think of it NL, how come they're given the compensation money to her son afteralll it was our money she used to do the operations and all her flight, accommodation and feeding was from our hard earned money, cant they pay the compensation money into nigeria purse or did muyiwa or obasanjo spend 10k even in buried her.

these pple are just investment that never yield any returns either visibly in invisibly
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by floriana(m): 2:50pm On Sep 23, 2009
There is what is called voluntary suicide. Stella subscibed to that. Why should an innocent doctor be punished for carrying out his duty?
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by bibiking1(m): 3:13pm On Sep 23, 2009
stella paid the price of poor unattended health care facility in the country. she and her diabolic husband could have changed the Nigerian healthcare fiasco but they didn't, too bad
do you guys know how many nigerians die every day as a result of poor healthcare facility in the country??

She paid the price so that doctor should be left alone!!!
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by Specialist900(m): 3:38pm On Sep 23, 2009
If she had sat down in her house will the doctor be able to kill her out of negligence. Imagine she went to malaga not even madrid for the operation why? The poor doctor sat down on his own trouble came to meet him

I love it when people quote the Bible fairly. So u have not seen or heard of instances when GOD punished a whole community, Family or a Nation just cos of the SIN(s) of 1 Person. If OBJ and family keep geting what they denied some many PEOPLE then God may have to make some explanation to some  of us. Infact the family of ABACHA/ATIKU/RIBADU ETC will definetely demand an apology from HIM.

@Chosen04,
I appreciate and respect your Biblical perspective on inclusive judgement, but my point is, it is the perogative of God if He  choses to punish a whole generation for an accursed thing or if He decides to punish an individual for what He or she has done wrong. To wish another mortal death, misfortune or gloat over her demise when we should be consoling her family, wishing they get over their loss or praying for those who despitefully used or abuse us is what I am saying.

Let God be the judge (and He is the ultimate judge) but we can attract more favor and mercy from God if we do not take a vengeful and judgemental position on our percieved enemies each time they wrong us. I know it's not easy but at least we can try! It's a principle that always heals. It also helps us to reflect on how often we have erred or offended people and we didn't get hammered by God or nothing un-toward happened to us because of something silly a family member did.

This is good news, How I wished this is possible in Nigeria. I lost a sister during child birth few years back due to doctor's negligence delaying Cesarean section operation even when all financial requirement was provided by the family.

It is enough, they must release the Jailed Doctor now. The Dead have burried their Dead so let the living be released and set free.

, so that he can go and kill again? Killer in medical suits should be made to take responsibility for their actions and inaction. It is only around here, Africa, that we wished all calamities away as act of God. When people know that they would be held accountable they might sit up. We should develop our own system instead of asking others to lower their own standard. How many Nigerians have died of medical negligence, May Ellen Ezekiel, Patrick Okpomo, Omatshola, Obong Isime, etc etc.
Just last year a young girl got her hand amputated when nurses in UCH, Ibadan forgot to remove intravenous fluid from her hand over 24 hours. Another new born baby in LUTH was infected with HIV when unscreen blood was given to her - (this was well addressed by the LUTH authority, though)

while i dont agree that the doctor should be left alone, as such negligence should not be condoned,, i agree that the incident should be another pointer to the fgn on the terrible state of medical service available in the country. in fact her son should use the compensation to start a good and functional hospital dedicated to the memory of his mum.

in fact nigeria would do well to scrap for example the useless national assembly and use all the money to build hospitals.

Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by thameamead(f): 12:52pm On Sep 24, 2009
Wow, The Obasanjo's made sure they got justice for Stella what about justice for Nigerian's. These people are a bunch of hypocrites, they hardly ever want to use Nigeria's Health Care System because they know it's nothing to write home about. any little thing, they fly to London or Germany to get themselves checked out. Fati, Mohammed Abacha's wife had her baby son in London this year. She had the baby @ Portland Hospital (the hospital for the rich @ famous) Maryam Bagangida and Shade Okoya get their medical treatment in Germany, 've got no problem with her having a tummy tuck cos i had one myself last month but she should not have gone to Malaga, Malaga of all places. There are dodgy plastic surgeons out there even in here in london. Kanye's mum died and Usher's ex-wife nearly died. People need to do their homework before thinking about sort of plastic surg,
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by muyiserra: 3:04pm On Sep 24, 2009
I think the doctor deserve that or even more cos the way he treated her out of negligence i doubt if he could treat a Spanish lady that way.
They are bloody racist and think all blacks are shit, and it for these he did what what he did without care and patience.

Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by baslone: 4:11pm On Sep 24, 2009
Whoever wants to die should die!! Left to me, excessive estacodes
and joblessness-Stella committed suicide and soon others will follow.

Who cares? Let dem fix up our hospitals and be the first
set of people to pay visits. With all those crammed textbooks we have
been consuming in our universities, It's obvious 80 percent of our
doc's will also get jailed for"lack of knowledge, negligence and carelessness".

No wonder Akala is smart enuff to go for bleaching cream instead of a facelift.
Re: Doctor Jailed For Obasanjo Death by namdo(m): 4:26pm On Sep 24, 2009
na waoo. Dis Doc was deliberately careless. was that the first time he had handled such ops. Me thinks he was really bought to comit the crime. No fine or punishment can account for the life of Stella.

That said, God has a way of doing His own justice and i can't question that. Fair enough justice has been receieved by the OBJ fam , probably after spending a huge amount from the fed loot

Really as someone up the thread said, It's a lesson to people. As a fam man, Fix your home first and then travel. Greed and lack of self worth can drive greedy ppl to extremes, wot of michael Jackson, wetin killam?

Let humans learn.
