Spokesperson of the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC), Cynthia Whyte has described as ‘fraudulent, despicable and
treacherous, reports making the round that he issued a press statement indicting former president Goodluck Jonathan and
other Niger Delta politicians as sponsors of the Niger Delta Avengers’ activities.
According to a press statement credited to Mr. Cynthia Whyte, former President Goodluck Jonathan was the alleged grand
patron of the NDA. Others named as sponsors of the NDA are Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Seriaki Dickson
of Bayelsa State. Mr. Whyte also allegedly identified Senator Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, ex-
militant turned contractor, Government Ekpemupolo, Raymond Dokpesi, Kingsley Kuku, Kimi Angozi and Patrick
Akpobolokemi as other sponsors.
However, in a swift rebuttal made available to greennews.ng by Mr. Whyte, the militant spokesperson denied ever making
any statement where he identified anybody as sponsors of militants.
He said, “This publication is a lie. At no time did Cynthia Whyte, spokesperson of the Joint Revolutionary Council (JRC)
issue a press release of that sort.
“We condemn the treacherous and blackmail that the press release was meant to achieve. The journey to a liberated Niger
Delta is the responsibility of every citizen of the Niger Delta even those who have dedicated themselves to a life of servitude
to hegemonic slave masters.
“How can Goodluck Jonathan sponsor The Avengers? If Goodluck Jonathan was given to such antics, he would not have
lost the election of March 2015. We will speak in the next few hours,” he added.
