UGHELLI—Former Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP governorship aspirant, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, has said that former President Goodluck Jonathan was president of the whole nation and as such would not have concentrated on the development of Niger Delta alone at the expense of other parts of the country.

Onuesoke, in a statement in Warri, while reacting to Katsina State Governor, Aminu Masari’s allegation, accusing Jonathan of non-performance in Niger Delta in his six years in office, observed that Jonathan, as President of Nigeria, concentrated more on the development of the North than Niger Delta, as he was a not an ethnic or regional leader.

He argued that Masari would have directed such accusation to his Northern leaders, who ruled Nigeria for a greater part of the 56 years as a nation, yet there was nothing to show for it nationally, while there was so much underdevelopment, poverty and illiteracy in the Northern part of Nigeria.
Reviewing the various achievements of Jonathan during his six years reign, Onuesoke recalled that the Jonathan’s administration diligently implemented its agenda for national transformation in priority areas, including power, rehabilitation and expansion of national infrastructure, agricultural development, education and employment generation among others.

He said despite coming from Niger Delta, it was evident that Jonathan concentrated more in developing the Northern and other parts of the country because he believed his constituency was the whole Nigeria and not Niger Delta.
According to him, “The educational sector under his administration achieved a tremendous transformation as 12 federal universities of which four are situated in the North-West cities of Dutsinma in Katsina, Dutse in Jigawa, Gusau in Zamfara and Birnin Kebbi in Kebbi State, while 125 almajirai schools were constructed and commissioned with adequate teaching facilities to provide basic qualitative education to the less privileged in the society.”

Beside the aforementioned, he said the developmental impact of Jonathan’s administration was equally felt in infrastructural development, agriculture, transport, employment equality, productivity, sports and electricity supply among others across the country.

Fear "North"

So they expected GEJ to be the president of the Niger Deltan alone

By the way, Hausa Fulanis has been the President of this country since independence, does that stop them frm begging on our streets?

But, isn't it obvious how they will rope GEJ into every of their predicament forgetting the likes of Yakubu Gowon, Shehu Shagari, Theophilous Danjuma, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Muhammadu Buhari(2x), Atiku Abubakar, Tafawa Balewa, Murtala Mohammed, Sani Abacha, Abdulsalami Abubakar & so on.

The most annoying part is that they own 83% of oil blocks in Nigeria & they are still the most impoverished region..

Lubbish!
There's no need for all these things (mercy after death).

GEJ doesn't deserve the praise of any Urhobo man. The only thing he did for Urhobonation, albeit belatedly, was the appointment of Chief Oru as Niger Delta Minister a year to the end of his tenure in other to win votes.

Not that Buhari is any better. Infact he's even worse! But atleast we know who he is and we don't see him as "our brother" and "our hero"!

Without bias GEJ was not an ethnoreligious biased leader. I laugh to scorn when people here accuse him that he did nothing in Otuoke nor Bayelsa state.

He was the president of Nigeria and not the infamous theory propounded by PMB of 97% and 5%. A true leader is one who rules with equity and not by sentiments.

Its unfortunate that all the love, care and attention he focused in the North trying to make them happy they back stabbed him.

God Bless GEJ

Nigerians are the most confused set of humans. Jonathan is an exact description of what a democratic leader should be.
How can a Northern elite who champions one Nigeria more than others criticize a national president for not being ethnocentric?

Goodluck Jonathan came at wrong time, Nigeria deserves him in 2050 cos his thought process is miles ahead of an average Nigerian politician. If we must successfully practice democracy, GEJ remains the template.

I wonder when people will stop pointing accusing finger to Jonathan...Northerners are ungrateful people...but only breed slow poke, liars, and most of all almanjiris. Since democracy started in this country all the past president only develop Northern part of the country but still they are ungrateful... during OBJ tenure... he developed Northern part and left South West but still the Northerners were ungrateful...Let's wait and see what the slowpoke president from Daura will do for the North...

Well, posterity will be very kind to GEJ. Because with time, the need to tarnish his image to cover up ruling govt failure will not be there. The scale of his work will be assessed objectively.

Even the corruption he is so much accused of will be put side by side with that of IBB, Abacha, OBJ and others. Then the truth will set people free.

GEJ was a good man that never favoured Nepotism just like his successor. in fact to a large extend, more attentions were given to the North than any other part of the country. The governor must be high on weed when he made that odd comment about GEJ. let APC stop the blame games and focus on revitalizing the economy. If they know they can't hold the economy any longer, let them employ the services of those who can or resign. Nigeria in recession is a big blow to us in front of the world at large.
