You are 90% right.
South South is majorly the oil rich region, however the militants or Avengers are majorly the ljaws(by tribe) and they fight the Government because their land has been polluted by oil spills, they then destroy oil pipelines which reduce output, so as to get the attention of the federal Government.
During the Obasanjo administration, they also kidnapped expatriates and sometimes attacked federal institutions in order to get the stubborn Obasanjo bargaining. Obasanjo however was hell bent on completely alienating them. The late Yar Adua took a completely different approach that guaranteed peace in the region for a while. Most of these avengers and militants fight for selfish reasons though.
The core Northerners are strict Muslims and 12 states were allowed to practice sharia, but for a long time they unified themselves with the middle belt using the Hausa language, and so the southerners with little knowledge of the North, grouped the entire middle belt and North as one, they are all reffered to as Hausa by many Southerners, which is of course far from the truth.
BokoHaram however is majorly based in the Sambisa Forest of Borno state. It is said that Sambisa forest alone is bigger than some states in Nigeria including Lagos(surprising ahn!).
At the moment BokoHaram suicide bombers attack soft targets in Borno state blowing themselves up, with some parents giving their children out to be used as suicide bombers.
I believe the war against BokoHaram in the North East should also include reorientation and a new ideology, because it seems the more we kill them the more they recruit from the populace and from Niger and Chad.

@the bolded. The unification of core-northerners and middlebelters with Hausa language was clearly the handiwork of the manipulative British colonialists who wanted to make the Hausa-fulanis more powerful and influential to continue to lord over other Nigerians.

And they did not just do this by language alone, but by annexing many middlebelt groups and classifying them under emirates, creating many fake emirates in middlebelt areas and planting fake Hausa/fulani settlements in the midst of our people.
This is something the current middlebelters and northern minorities must correct in time.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission froze four Zenith Bank accounts used by Fayose to launder money for his Ekiti governorship election in 2014 in a lawsuit no. FHC/CS?871/2016 titled “Federal Republic of Nigeria Vs Zenith bank PLC account numbers 1003126654, 9013074033, 1010170969 and 1013835889.”

The judge Justice Mohammed Idris had granted the EFCC on June 24, 2016 an order freezing all the funds in the said accounts in Zenith Bank. Two accounts belong to Governor Ayo Fayose while the third belongs to his hotel Spotless Hotel in Ado Ekiti. The fourth account was operated by one of Fayose’s aides, Abiodun Agbele, who is under EFCC custody.

Did you grow up with fulanis? Or shuwa arabs or other northerners?
I have a lot of these people as my family members. My mother's immediate younger sister married a fulani man, a close cousin of hers married 3 wives, one is a shuwa arab and the other a fulani woman. Half of my people are muslims who intermarry fulanis, hausas and shuwa arabs like no tomorrow.

Here in the south, all northerners who speak hausa identify as one, so i have many fulani family friends.

I can tell you authoritatively that this is the way many or most urban fulanis/hausanized fulanis look like.

But una sha! All these fine people hidden from the rest of Nigeria. See beautiful girls haa!
