Minister for Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh was photographed driving a tractor at the 'One man,One hectare' Agric mechanization event in Ebonyi State. He was scheduled to flag off the programme and to launch the distribution of Agricultural equipment to farmers. What is worth celebrating in this? Distribution of farm implements that does not correspond to improved output? Chief Audu Ogbeh in my opinion has contributed his quota to Nigerian polity and he should be allowed to enjoy his pension. We are celebrating obsolete Agricultural practices and methods and that is why as a nation we cannot feed our teeming population. Young, vibrant and innovative minds should be saddled with such responsibility. As the oil revenue dwindles, Agriculture is being taunted as the sector to paddle the Nigerian canoe out of this recession however, we have no plans, no blueprints and no strategies! How many mechanized farms do we have in Nigeria, what happened to the farm settlements? And we believe a geriatric will secure our future? The world laughs! |
