GurlFriend: Nigeria does not have any problem except the one that has been created by some thugs who call themselves our leaders. They steal the country blind and they are still stealing as I am writing. They allocate to themselves humongous salaries and allowances. They appoint some people as their aids and jointly they enjoy the sweat of our their country men. We only need to create this awareness so that everybody is on the same page. This year 2016, Nigeria had a budget of about 6 trillion Naira. If they can please spend about 2 trillion for things that will add value to the country, the whole world will be marveled by the visible growth that will happen in the country. Let's all push for this. This is the real change that we need. God help Nigeria. 1 Like |

lonelydora: LOL You, madam, have made me laugh heartily on this gloomy rainy morning. Thank you Many will probably mis-interpret the simple truism in your statement. Let me contextualise it with an example:- James Ibori had the opportunity to work and better himself abroad. He was a 'diasporan' (who coined that annoying phrase sef?) as being touted here. Whilst there, he was a till-skimming (stealing from the cash register) fraudulent thief. The system there caught him and if he'd remained, he would not have progressed beyond that level of employment. Knowing that, he returned to Nigeria, where (ironically) the 'Nigerian system' allowed a proven thief to attain the position of Governor, thereby legitimising his thievery. My point? Nigeria's salvation does not lie with 'diasporans' or 'home-brews' (me sef sabi coin phrase nau, abi?). Rather, it is in ensuring dead bodies Instead of the get-rich-quick bastards that our system encourages now, along with a population fully vested in the country, only strong institutions peopled with well-meaning Nigerians can do that . In short, the problem is what we as a people allow to take place in Nigeria. The diasporan /martian / visa-seeking 'patriotic' home-based Nigerian argument is a mere detail. 1 Like |

I think people are missing the point. Are people in the diaspora(not all countries)exposed to better ways of working, a sane legal system, right atmosphere/support for business, security etc? A resounding yes!! Now, by this opportunity, is the art or skill of governance necessarily bestowed upon them? A resounding No! Governance and leadership is an art/skill, especially in a diverse, difficult terrain as ours. You can learn the basics/terminolgies of governance in college but that doesn't make you a leader, talk less of a good one! No matter how long you spend watching the best of chefs cooking and dishing out mouth watering dishes, it would never make you a good cook/chef. The meat is in getting your hands dirty, serving and leading in whatever positions are open to you at the council, town etc level, before you can position that you have something to offer Nigeria. This is very obvious in the pool of good people we have in some positions now- good ideas but it takes more than the ideas to lead/govern....... Diasporian or not! |

Funny enough when I was doing my exit interview they asked what I was going to do in the States. I said I am going to learn so I can come back and apply what I have learnt .. my mama shock say I chose naija but honestly where else will you be proud to make your first million before 30 Let us face the truth the only thing holding the nation back is our mentality and the fact that we hardly admit our own faults I moved to a city where I knew no one when I arrived but left family behind as I returned. You will only make an impact where you have the strength and perseverance. Do not pray for Money pray for the wisdom to create wealth opportunities from nothing I went from a retail cashier to an office space in 3 years the opportunities are there for advancement. America is not better than us but because they put their people first and take care of the welfare of their citizens it appears they are. The things we are doing now should have been done years ago but for ignorance like this topic Living in America taught me to think of others more than I think of myself taught me to recognize my true worth and never settle for less Don't look down on returnees because they face racism on a level you haven't but still wake up Everyday and make a difference Blacks full naija yet when one person rises up he hesitates to leave room for another to pass 1 Like |

Help me ask the fool if Late Obafemi Awolowo ever lived elsewhere before he did all he did in the Western Region then. Imagine the west having a TV station even before ireland? What we need is sincerity of purpose. The home-based leaders travel abroad and see how things are done, yet all they are interested in is to 'milk the cow dry'. God help us |

We need to remind ourselves of two fundamentals: 1. No nation can develop/progress without a good President 2. Remove the welfare system and the ban on polygamy that are some of the features of most developed nations, and all of them would become chaotic in a couple of years. In other words, ban reckless polygamy and introduce the welfare system in Nigeria coupled with a good president and see what we become in few years` time. As far as this topic is concerned, let us concentrate on our first generation leaders and compare them with the people that took over from them- that is, compare the Awos and Ziks with the Obasanjos and Babangidas. You can`t aspire to what you are ignorant of, so the interpretations of governance by these two generations were different because of difference in exposure. Of course, not every individual that goes abroad would be a good leader, but you can`t be a very good leader unless you know what works and what doesn`t. through practical experience. An Awo in power would never have given in to the IMF when IBB did It`s also wrong to think that a Governor in Nigeria has any power. No, the power of a Governor, and his/her ability to perform, depend on what the President allows. The constitution doesn`t say that, but that is the reality. So you need to kow-tow to President Obasanjo before you can do well as a Governor. And, if you are not in President Obasanjo`s party, then forget it. I heard one of their generation say that. This is what you will not get from an Awo or Zik because of their exposure. An exposed President would respect the concept of the separation of powers and the need for checks and balances; the Obasanjos saw that as an insult. Those at home need those abroad and vice versa. The fact is, one has what the other doesn`t, so we must work collaboratively! |

Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 2:38pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
logicab: Did you read and comprehend what i wrote initially? What you are basically saying is crime happens in other countries. Yes they do. Every single country in the world. But i have never seen in a normal society where a group of people murder a suspect in public and onlookers gather and chant encouragement and support, with the police sometimes present. If you have, please give me one example of the scenario i have just portrayed. It only happens in phucked up countries like Nigeria. 3 Likes |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by logicab: 3:24pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
banmee:I should be questioning your comprehension. Once again, jungle justice is NOT ONLY when a mob gathers to beat and burn a SUSPECTED thief to death. AND once again, a Nigerian will be a Nigerian whether in Nigeria or abroad. So yes, Nigerians abroad will still engage in jungle justice. |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 3:33pm On Sep 20, 2016 |

banmee:Ogbeni, your case is that of the pot and kettle. I hope you know what a mob action is about. By the way, the victims of mob actions are not always guilty. I'm not even sure what you are on about with the "breaking the law" part. |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 4:00pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
logicab: Any toddler will tell you that jungle justice is "mob rule in which people take the law into their own hands and punish alleged offenders for perceived heinous crimes. Jungle justice is also referred to as mob or street justice and can lead to extra-judicial killing". That is not my definition. It is googles. It is also common knowledge. You can't term it that way if only one person is involved. It would just plain murder/breaking the law. It only happens in Nigeria. I have lived in various cities in the baltic nations, Europe and America, and not once have i seen anything like that except in countries like Nigeria. The scary part is you all welcome it as normal and business as usual. That in itself is mind boggling. 1 Like |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by logicab: 4:02pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
banmee:Mr Man, read every single one of my previous comments again. I refer to Nigerians and Nigerians ONLY. Once again, no matter where Nigerians go, they will always behave like Nigerians. And jungle justice is one of such behaviors. And once again, mob action is not ONLY when an ALLEGED thief is beaten and burnt to death. There are other ways in which mobs operate; but it is still a mob action. It involves meting out "justice" even without real confirmation of a perceived "wrongdoing". I hope you finally got it. |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 4:11pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
logicab: No i don't get it because your argument is disjointed. Are you saying a group of Nigerians in Germany will engage in Jungle justice? Please explain how that is possible since it has never been heard of. Let me explain how it works since you are not used to it. A crime is committed against you and the next thing you do is call the police. They will handle it. Because of the society you have created for yourselves, the best option you have is murder. I hope you finally get it now. 2 Likes |

The world has become a global village and we all depend on each other for exchange of culture, technology, religion, beliefs etc. Any leader that believes he can rule effectively without international collaboration is extremely myopic. We need leaders who are exposed to positive changes all over the world. Unfortunately, our leaders are either too selfish to implement positive changes they have experienced from other countries. |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by logicab: 4:35pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
banmee:LMAO. Man, this is also typical of a Nigerian - comprehension issues. There is nothing disjointed in my comments if you can read. YES, Nigerians will engage in jungle justice/mob action where ever they are as a group. Even in that "your" Germany, Nigerians will most likely group together to "punish" an accused thief even without evidence of a committed crime or proof the accused was the perpetrator rather than inform the police. I am not used to what? OK, I get it; you live in Germany. So automatically you assume you have superior knowledge of "abroad" abi na "overseas". Calm down mister. |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 4:48pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
logicab: See why i say you have comprehension problems? Quote anywhere where i said i live in Germany. And you saying Nigerians will most likely commit jungle justice in Germany is laughable to say the least. I am sure you would be googling like crazy now to find instances where that probably could have happened. I can just picture how your mind works. You are so used to rubbish that you actually believe other societies allow the horrible things you allow in Nigeria. I will be waiting for the quote where i said i live in Germany. 2 Likes |
Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by logicab: 4:59pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
banmee:Once again Ogbeni, you are the one with comprehension problems. You said this: Are you saying a group of Nigerians in Germany will engage in Jungle justice? Now whether or not you live in Germany, I can take your hypothetical scenario to mean you are familiar with Germany (or why would you even try to make a point with a country you are not familiar with)? There is also something called satire. If you didn't get the latter part of my post, it is a waste of time explaining to you. Secondly, I don't need Google to know how Nigerians behave in groups where ever they are. The question though is, do you even know where I live or have lived? |

Re: What A Nigerian Living Abroad Tweeted That Has Set Twitter Nigeria On Fire by banmee(m): 5:06pm On Sep 20, 2016 |
logicab: So, saying categorically that i live in Germany is satirical. Ok. I get you. And yes, based on the degraded society you are used to and live in, Nigerians behave in murderous groups as evidenced on a daily basis. I assure you first hand, in other normal societies, they don't. You know why? unlike Nigeria where you can get away with murder, you will spend decades behind bars in a structured society. |
