Obasanjo's administration earned # 17trn from crude oil sales within eight years and left behind 45bn dollars external reserves and 3.348bn dollars external debt.

Yaradua grew the reserves to 64bn dollars
within just one year and the administration was able to finance 15 months of imports despite the 2008/2009 world economic meltdown. Hence, Nigeria survived the melt down because of the political will by the administration to save(a great achievement by Yaradua which most Nigerians are not aware of). Despite the tough economic reality at that time, Yaradua left 47.7bn dollars in reserves and an external debt of 3.94bn dollars. Meanwhile, the administration earned only # 9trn from crude oil sales within that short period.

Now, Jonathan administration witnessed an oil boom when Brent crude sold for over 100 dollars/barrel, with the regime earning # 51trn within a period of 5years. But because of corruption, the administration did not only squander the oil revenue but even depleted the reserves left by Yaradua, leaving just 32bn dollars and a huge external debt of 63bn dollars for Buhari. The same Brent crude sold for as low as 35 dollars/barrel at a point shortly after Buhari took over power and had only managed to climb to about 48 dollars just recently.

These are facts that can be verified. So, it's amazing hearing people criticize Buhari for the hunger in the land.

According to Fashola, Buhari's administration inherited 206 uncompleted road projects and contract arrears worth #2.1trn from Jonathan; and for about 2 to 3 years the contractors where not paid. This slowed down the economic activities, with most of the companies laying off their staff. This was when the seed of recession was sowed.

It's obvious that Buhari came in to rescue Nigeria, because if Jonathan had continued in power, the nation's economic crisis would have been worse, perhaps even the Federal government wouldn't have been able to pay salaries of civil servants by now.

According to Okonjo Iweala, Nigeria started borrowing money to pay salaries since October, 2014; but today Nigeria now borrow money for investment in capital projects.

Those who blame Buhari for the current hardship do so either out of mischief (hatred) or ignorance. So, we shouldn't join the bandwagon in criticising him. He may not have done much to save the situation, considering that he is not a perfect human being but he means well for the country and can only succeed with our prayers.

May Almighty God continue to guide Baba Buhari.

AMEN, AMEN and AMEN.

Baba should however stop lamenting Jonathan's woes and embrace God's direction. We shall surely get out of this recession with the support of the Holy Trinity.

Oby that worked hard for PMB using the BBOG campaign has refuted your claim on the cause if the recession; saying that capital flight occasioned by the de marketing of Nigeria done by PMB himself in his numerous foreign trips is the major culprit. She is not an IPOB youth. PMB was massively supported to replace a perceived inept administration, it will be unacceptable to defend present administrative ineptitude with an excuse of a bad previous government. Lies.
It took Obama a month to set a national direction for his administration and roughly 2 years to pull America fully back from the brink.

The National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) dates the beginning of the recession as December 2007. According to the Department of Labor , roughly 8.7 million jobs were shed from February 2008 to February 2010, and GDP contracted by 5.1%, making the Great Recession the worst since the Great Depression . Unemployment rose from 4.7% in November 2007 to peak at 10% in October of 2009. [1]
The bottom, or trough, was reached in the second quarter of 2009 (marking the technical end of the recession, defined as at least two consecutive quarters of declining GDP). [2] The NBER, dating by month, points to June 2009 as the final month of the recession.
The recovery after the 2009 trough was weak and both GDP and job growth erratic and uneven. A solid, strong pace of job growth was not seen until 2011. [3] As of August 2015, the unemployment rate is 5.1%, [4] below the historical average of 5.6% but still barely above the 5% when the recession started in December 2007, with roughly 12,639,000 jobs added since the Great Recession's payroll trough in February 2010. [5] American household net worth fell from a pre-recession peak of $68 trillion in Q3 2007 to $55 trillion by Q1 2009, [6] while real median household income fell from $56,436 in 2007 to $51,758 by 2012.[7] The poverty rate increased from 2006 to 2010, reaching a peak of 15%, and held there through 2012 before dropping to 14.5% in 2013.

culd av jus drop d link only,, it beta i educate ur likes n pple wu xpect magic promised by APC,, once n for all.. so hw many yrs dy btw 2007 to 2013.

I am sure obama must have said that as a tongue in cheek after-all he is already leaving the white house. No need for controversial comments.

Olodo ni e. It took America three(3) years before they started recovering from recession.

No nation in history had ever recover from recession in less than 3 years. In fact it usually take up to five years to have full recovery.

The problem with those who unduly criticise Buhari is that they either don't understand economics or they are full of mischief. They have allowed hate and recently hunger caused by Jonathan to eat up their thinking faculty.

A lot is going on right now in Agriculture and solid mineral mining. These will take between 3 to 5 years to come to full maturity.

Only the olodos and hate infested brains are shouting everywhere on the mass media that the government has no plan or economic team. Those of us who chose to open our eyes and mind to realities on ground are taking advantage of the opportunities being thrown up the current economic recession.

I am afraid that those who spend their energy wailing will still remain poor when the recession is over because there is going to be more import bans.

With your very long analysis and painted words could you please do same on why and how Nigeria went into recession under the same man Buhari in 1984?

http://www.elombah.com/index.php/opinion/10007-muhammadu-buhari-recession-it-s-1984-all-over-again

Or was it a mistake repeating itself over and over again by the same man...who do you blame if under one man Nigeria witnessed her history of two recessions?

I won't blame APC or Buhari...I would blame those that voted them into power, we all saw the signs but most people voted out of hatred for Jonathan.

-You voted a man that dodged public debates to tell Nigerians how he intends to fulfill his promises.

-You voted a man that has serious issues presenting his school certificate.

-You voted a man that has not contributed anything towards the development of Nigeria after leaving office during his first stint as head of state.

-You voted a man that thinks he is the only honest Nigerian dead or alive.

-You voted a man with a rich history of suppressing freedom of speech and jailing journalist.

Enjoy your change...if you like extend the change to 2023 you may not survive to tell the full story.
