Funny thread! lol. You folks are brutal. But seriously, is there some,  "in-fashion/'new cool' committee" somewhere that meets to delegate/determine what should be the 'new cool'/fashion trend, or something? Or does each individual simply go by his or her gut instinct/guided by personal tastes/or blindly(?) adopt/accept their "idols'" fashion sense when deciding what's fashionable or isn't?? What are the standard benchmarks, if any? 'Coz me go like know o. grin

Guys wearing jeans halfway, with boxers showing. Fashion or Mistake?
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by cabali(m): 12:34pm On Dec 26, 2006
That isnt fashion, it is a mistake cos it is only acceptable in the 'hood. It is completely a fashion annoyance and any one who does it should be locked up in a wardrobe including the rap stars that started it

You dont see mature dressers doing that; even in the rap world, it is just the newies that do it

Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by BlackMamba(m): 4:24pm On Dec 26, 2006
@loverBwoy,
You mentioned wearing sock and sandals/flip flops as a fashion mistake, but most African American guys see not wearing a socks as a fashion no-no. Different strokes.
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by cabali(m): 4:42pm On Dec 26, 2006
Thats cos they dont have traditional like we do
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by LoverBwoy(m): 4:55pm On Dec 26, 2006
agreed different strokes,

but you  wear sandals/flip flops basically because it's warm or you are in a warm climate
wearing socks kind of turn the idea inside out
except you got ugly feet wink

and who said african americans no shizzle about fashion?
wearing your pants down is not exactly fashionable
wearing sneakers on suit is a bit ghetto too  grin
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by cabali(m): 6:02pm On Dec 26, 2006

Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by BlackMamba(m): 8:03pm On Dec 26, 2006
Why do most African Americans view men that wear sandals as gay. And this includes wearing a sandal during summer when it's comfortable to do so.
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by LoverBwoy(m): 8:13pm On Dec 26, 2006
seems like you take inspiration from african americans? abi which one now bros?
Remember most African americans don't travel just like the rest of america so they wont know much wink

maybe everything is gay to them, including gay people  wink
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by cabali(m): 8:26pm On Dec 26, 2006
click ignore!!!!
Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by BlackMamba(m): 8:33pm On Dec 26, 2006
What has travelling got to do with how you view men with sandals. Majority of Nigerians still abhor gays but we don't connect gay to sandal wearing in Naija.

Re: Fashion Mistakes People Make by hotangel2(f): 2:51am On Dec 27, 2006
Wonderful thread.

I don't think Bags under the eyes are fashion mistakes. but i'd say they are not cool, and people should get rid of them before going out. Yes there are ways to "get rid" of eyebags.

--------
Some of the things i consider as Fashion mistakes are:

- Females using black lip liner on their lip. Okay now sweetie, what's all that for?

- All these lilac lipsticks that nigerian ladies use. I mean OMG? Why?? WHy?? The lilac and silver lipstick is not meant for everybody, so please STOP!

- Men who do not have muscles and wear "muscle tees". I mean what is sexy about seeing your skinny arm? NOTHING!

- Ladies who feel as if, wearing a size or two smaller than their normal size would make them feel skinnier than they are. Ohh my goodness, No darling, no. It won't make you "look skinny". It makes you look Horrible. Instead of doing that, wear darker shades of cloths, and focus on the part of your body you love and draw attention to that part.
Like if you have nice arms, good boobs but big tummy. Where a dress that's hugs the boobs (not to tight), sleeveless and flows from the boobs downward. That way, you show your gorgeous arms. Draw enough but not too much attention to the boobs, and cover the tummy no one wants to see.

- Men who for some reason feel the need to turn their caps backward. Why? What is it? Why wear a "face-cap" if you won't put the place covering the face in front?

- Men who Wear sneakers/canvas/tennis shoes with suits!!! OMG, darling, no don't do that.

- Ladies who feel as though it's there God given right to wear low cut jeans, and show their thongs/g-strings. You should only do that if you've had 15 shots of tequila!

- People who over accesorize. Too much of accessories is A fashion Mistake. Why should anybody put 15 bangles in one hand, four long necklaces rounded up in one to make about 16 lines, and a ear-ring that would probably cut your ear hole. Why? Why do that?

- Ladies who wear high heels with pants that are fighting with the ground.

- Very Long toe nails. Fashion mistake. Very Long Finger nails, Fashion mistake. Too red lipstick when not in a costume, fashion mistake.

- The biggest of all mistake for females. COMPLETELY SHAVING OF YOUR EYEBROWS. OMG, LAdies kill me with that! Why cut it off? If you can't arch it perfectly, it's just 8 dollars to do it professionally. Don't scrap it off and then draw a thin line on it. No, you look like a whatchamacallit. It's UGLY!. You look like eucharia and clarion chukwurah. No don't do it!

- Men who Over-blinglinize the bling. Ice in the ear (preferably one ear), one necklace is enough. DOn't use two big fake rock on both your ears, wear some more of those sparkling fake "ice" on your neck, and then use grillz to cover your tooth. You don't need all of that. You really think Flavor flav looks good with all of that? No he doesn't! WHy copy him?

- Piercing all your body parts. Eyelids, lips, nose, the whole ear, belly button, cheeks, tongue. WHat are you? a rock star? Combine just two of those. You either do "ear and belly button". "ear and nose". The rest, i tell you, you don't need.

- Tatooing everywhere on your body. YES it's a fashion mistake. Don't ask me how!

- Wearing wigs that are faker than fake. If you can't buy ONE good wig, CUT your hair! Just one good wig instead of twenty fake wigs. Buy one good one that'll look like its' your hair, or at least look as if it's sowed in. Not one that shows the sowing lines. Horrible i tell you, horrible.

- Wearing costumes when not going to a costume party. Fashion mistake. Why look like a bunny when going to a birthday party?

- Men who feel as if it's COOL to wear DARK sunglasses in a dark room. WHat are you? An harmed robber in a nigerian movie?

- Ladies who don't know the difference between, using lip gloss and dipping their mouth in their mama's pot of ororo. Okay now, we know your daddy has an oil factory. That don't mean you should put all the oil on your lips. Thank you!

- Ladies who Over-shimmerize. All these shine shine stuffs. No no no. Shimmer top. SHimmer splashed on their body. Shimmer earing. Jeans with shimmer on it. SHimmering bangles. SHimmering necklace. WHy all the shimmer? SHimmers Eye shawdow, shimmer lipstick.
too much shimmering! It's over-shimmerization.

- And then there's this one. I don't consider it a fashion mistake. I call FASHION CRIME! Skinny ladies who have no shape. (Yes skinny people can be shapeless). Skinny ladies who have no shape, wearing things that fully hug their body from head to toe. It makes them look horrible. If you have no hips, or boobs, why wear something hugging Practically nothing on your body? Why wear a pencil skirt when you have no hips? When you have that kin d of body, you wear something that flatters the part you have that are gorgeous. like your tummy, nice arms and so on.

- Another fashion Crime is when Big ladies wear cloths that are Flowing too much. Everything just flowing and they look even bigger than they look. Hiding inside a big cloth doesn't make you smaller. You wear a cloth your size, Flowing yes, but not too flowing. Just enough to show your shape, not too tight to divide your body into halves.

I'll write more as i think of them.
