@ topic.

The figures seems about reasonable and right. This was the range I felt pay and allowances should have been for the legislative arm right from time.

I don't see it as a reduction, I see it as a correction.

rethink:

take away money from politics and we would have less bloodshed.

Your security men that pretend to keep the law that is made are no fools. Law making should be voluntary service. The makers of the law should be people of respect and the fear of God.

The keepers of the law should be paid those monies not the makers of the law.

Good ideology. Whether this style would produce the your desired outcome is doubtful.

Most legislative chambers are susceptible to bribes by big business and not paying them might give them personal justification that it is not that bad to take some.

Furthermore, you can not take away money from politics. You will need and use money to campaign, no matter what, so you will still get the same bunch being elected and they would want to get their money back somehow. Politics is not a charity institution.

I can see ery1 is new to this stupid reform cos there was a time in june when dis stupjd NRAFC came with a reform that cars used as escort be reduced as a sign of support during the economic crisis, thereby taking people out of their jobs.
I refuse to be surprised even now cos I know wot a bunch of rabid dogs they are.
Do you see politicians complaining? The doe is still large. Bankers salary has been slashed by 30% and they are talking about chicken reduction.

Monetized politics, infrastructual death and dearth, graft drunken institutions, sentimental justice this is the nigerian story and dream but i stand to differ, If only we can make politics more of social service, reduce pol. salaries to minimum wage and make corruption in public and private sector punishable as capital offence upon conviction without appeal, i think sanity will find it way in. Am a lawyer but i believe some savagery can render apt justice. You may not like it but it will work.

What's wrong with paying them (politicians) minimum wage?

Are they not there to serve the nation?

Old teachers in schools (after spending over 30 yrs training us and our kids) aren't paid the minimum wage and are afraid of retiring because the pension scheme isn't meeting its desired reason for being created. Yet someone comes into political office and can legally go home with over N50m every month.

The result is garbage in garbage out.
Look at the public schools today.
Are the kids there really the future leaders?
Or will they wait for the kids of the politicians who will graduate from Oxford, Cambridge or Harvard to come and lead the nation?

Education is the key.

When one carts away fund that would have been useful in developing and maintaining schools in a community, he is invariably destroying the future of the young generation of the time.

A hypothetical example:
In a community with 1000 kids of school attending age, how many of the kids are born into families that can afford to send them to schools in other towns or cities? Probably 10 kids; all of whom might be from the home of the ruling class of the village or community. Now, what happens to the 990 kids that can't make it to school? Farming, pottery making, weaving or the most common of social vices in our times like teenage pregnancy, kidnappings, drugs, , the list is endless. Leaders of tomorrow, they are. We could argue for and against, back and forth, but these group of youngsters are the ones that will be manipulated into committing crimes against existing authorities.

Fix the education sector and everything else should gradually fall into place. (IMHO)
