The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, has filed four counts of alleged N2.4bn shipping fraud against the Innoson Nigeria Limited before a Federal High Court in Lagos. The charge marked FHC/L/565c/16 filed before Justice Saliu Saidu has five others as defendants. They are Innocent Chukwuma, Charles Chukwu, Maximian Chukwura, Mitsui Osk Lines and Anajekwu Sunny. I am a bit confused here, we know that Nigerian police is doing their job “efficiently” but what e are yet to know is if this case falls within the ambit of Nigeria Police or Nigeria Custom Service or even Federal Internal Revenue. What I know is that 2.4 billion Naira isn’t small money and how come all these years the customs or the Nigerian police didn’t detect this but now the company has sourced from the Chinese international partnership.

Some quarters have attributed some tribal five percent tendency towards this while others have looked at it as a vendetta. Some are looking at as a way to have a slice of the Chinese partnership cake. This issue of fraud is coming up now that the Chinese are pumping close to a billion dollar in the company. The Chinese firms participating in the project are Shangdong Broadcasting Group and Shangdong Cable Interactive Services, as well as Inspur Group, said to be China’s leader in Cloud Computing solution suppliers and Information Technology (IT) service provider. According to Chukwuma,The Group Chief Executive Officer of Innoson” the Chinese firms have decided to invest the $1 billion in the Nigerian economy within the next 12 to 24 months and “every plan to make a success of these projects have been concluded between the parties.” He said.

It is no more news that the country is in dire need of cash and as it stands today in the country any avenue to recoup money is welcomed but not “throwing away the baby with the birth water.” What should be news is how does the country get away from this economic quagmire and not taxing and fining everything. There must be some intelligent approach to this. The normal is invite Innosson then there should be an understanding between the parties. Going to court is sending wrong message to investors ad this has the capacity of scaring investors away or even make investors withhold certain information from the public.

A firm that has just started production of a Nigerian car with a lot of prospect is about to be killed on the altar of “economic dysfunctional tendencies” as it stands . Stakeholders and industry watchers opined that the authorities are descending on Innosson because of the recent collaboration with the Chinese. This business partnership runs in the billions of Naira and will put innocent as a top vehicle manufacturing firm in Africa, in hush hush tone… it is said that the “authorities” that be wants their own slice of the cake. The best way of getting this slice is by “exhuming ” the exhumables....https://etimesafrica./2016/10/25/a/#more-2271
