Nigeria's Oil Production Climbs To 2.1m Barrels Per Day, Says Kachikwu by Nairadays: 10:41pm On Nov 01, 2016
Better times ahead

Nigeria’s oil production is nearly back to normal following a sharp drop earlier this year due to rebels attacking pipelines, the oil minister said Tuesday.

“The reality is that as of today and this morning, we are at 2.1 million barrels production. That’s substantial,” Minister of State for Petroleum Emmanuel Kachikwu said in the nation’s capital of Abuja.

Nigeria normally produces around 2.2 million barrels per day (bpd), but output dropped to a low of 1.4 bpd this year due to rebels attacks.

Addressing the press after a meeting between Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and representatives from the oil-producing Niger delta region, Kachikwu said “a lot of behind the scene engagements” were paying off.

“Part of the expectations by 2017 is to target zero shutdowns as a result of militancy,” Kachikwu said, describing the talks as “fairly good, fairly civilised dialogue”.

The meeting was attended by Edwin Clark, a veteran leader who spoke on behalf of some of the militant groups in the country’s restive southern swamplands, including the Niger Delta Avengers.

Clark made 16 demands to the Nigerian government, including revamping an amnesty programme for ex-militants, reducing the military presence in the region and cleaning up pollution.

The demands borrow heavily from the Avengers, who demand a greater share of oil revenue and also want the government to finish construction of a university.

Without peace in the Niger delta, which produces the bulk of Nigeria’s oil, Buhari will struggle get the funds needed to kick-start the Nigerian economy out of its worst slowdown in years.

But analysts point out that his government can only meet so many of the demands.

“I think it’s the beginning of the discussion,” Dolapo Oni, energy analyst at Ecobank, told AFP.

“We’ve seen the demands and we know not all of them can be granted, but as much that can be done I think Buhari will do,” Oni said.

Then there is the issue of rival militant groups threatening any agreement.

On Sunday, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate group claimed an attack on a gas pipeline, saying it will “never support” the talks and declaring “this is not ending soon.”

And u still want to borrow?

And later they said that they av achieved 79% of 2016 budget.

Please can someone mention a federal project that has been implemented in d south since May 29th, 2015.

All they av brought is propaganda, compromise of institutions(Nigeria military, dss, efcc, icpc, inec)unemployment, inflation, recession, pain, suffering, killing of institutions(NASS and Judiciary) and death.

Now there is a grand scheme to rig through the supreme court; that was whole idea behind the invasion of judges houses, to force them to step down by intimidating dem; and then rig the decision of Abia, Bayelsa, Edo, Cross river, Kogi at the apex court.(abi u think say the protest at abuja for alleged corrupt judges to step down; na clear eye??) And thereby turn Nigeria to a one party state.

Nigeria is sliding into a government of tyranny. Now we r buying fuel at 145, dollars is almost 500; they attacking the judiciary nobody is talking, that is the first stage of tyranny; the second stage; my brother u don't want to imagine it; but upcoming events will speak for itself.

Those supporting this govt and hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel; am sorry to disappoint you, the light u r seeing is an incoming train.

A word is enough for the wise.

Crude production is back to normal thats good, ND people have played their part now its in the hands of the FG to determine whether Nigeria continue at this normal or back to 100k barrel per day.

Oil is at $51 per barrel and our production cost ia around $25 per barrel oya subtract that multiple that by 0.55 now thats how much we make and thats shared between states federal and local government
And 13% of that gos to the oil producing states, another percentage is given to NDDC.. So u really see how the cash is shared? ?

Your oil, the one you inherited from your granparents or the one you produced in your house?

Pathetic comment from ill informed kids in our generation.

Will an indigene of Lagos State claim that the water ways in Apapa belongs to him and not the federal government again?

Or the Yorubas would say the foremost Airport in Lagos MMIA 1 belongs to them, hence no other tribe should travel from Lagos.

Like buhari said yesterday to the pathetic ND leaders that went to see him.

'Nigeria belongs to all us" if you have any other country you want to call your own,you can pack you bags and luggage and move out of that territorial space called Nigeria. As for we the others, we have no other country apart from Nigeria and we would stay to fix Nigeria.

If you disagree with Buhari, you visit any embassy in Nigeria with any other passport, apart from the one showing Federal Republic of Nigeria/Ecowas (and apart from UK or America PP, but from any other tribe in Nigeria) and see whether a visa would be issued to you with that your yeye passport from a breakaway tribe.

this is what Buhari would have done long time ago; before sparking the violence via his unguided words.

Now u can see that dialogue; has and will always be the way towards conflict resolution not War/military conflict.
