Lagos Can Generate N50bn Internal Revenue Monthly – Ambode by Jahelastic(m): 6:56pm On Nov 04, 2016 |
The Lagos State Government has the potential to generate N50bn monthly as internal revenue, Governor Akinwumi Ambode said on Friday in Lagos. Ambode made this known at a colloquium on the state of the nation, organised in Ikoyi, Lagos, by the Coalition of Nigerian Apostolic Leaders. CNAL is an affiliate and the Nigerian arm of the International Coalition of Apostolic Leaders. The governor was represented by the state Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade. He said that whatever the state was realising at the moment as internally generated revenue was only 65 per cent of what it could achieve. Ambode said that the state government had the population and the youth to achieve the target and was working on critical policy objectives that would unlock the state’s potential to build a more vibrant economy. He noted that the economic challenges in Nigeria were affecting Lagos State, but said that the state was re-strategising. The governor said that the economic challenges in the country, drop in crude oil production and fall in Naira value, should provide a golden opportunity for the country to re-strategise to build a sustainable economy. Ambode said the recent declaration by the International Monetary Fund that Nigeria has regained its position as the biggest economy in Africa should be a harbinger of hope of a better Nigeria. He gave the assurance that the state government would soon complete the blue rail light project, and bridges at Abule Egba and Agege, among other capital projects. The Minister of Information, Culture and National Orientation, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said at the occasion that corruption was Nigeria’s major problem. He said that the Federal Government had made efforts to communicate effectively with the citizens to enable them to understand the cause of the current economic situation and its efforts to tackle them He said, “We have held town hall meetings. We have launched Change Begins with Me. It is about all of us. We must be the change we desire.” The minister said that a major challenge faced by government was misleading information placed on social media by unpatriotic Nigeria to counter government information. He said, “They counter us, using social media. This is a challenge. They fill the atmosphere with their own version of information.” Mohammed said that it was necessary for the Federal Government to get feedback from the citizens. He said, “That is why forums like this are important.” The Presiding Apostle, NCAL, Pastor Wale Adefasarin, said that economic crunch in Nigeria had made many citizens to ask “is this the change we voted for?” He said, “Nigeria faces daunting challenges with attendant job loss, closure of industries, loss in Naira value, etc. Will Naira regain its value? How do our youths get jobs? “ He said that coalition believed it had a role to play. He said, “We stand as partners in the Nigerian enterprise. The church can champion transformation. How can we support this transformation? We need to know.” http://jahelastic..com.ng/2016/11/lagos-can-generate-n50bn-internal.html?m=0 4 Likes

ArabMopol: Lol. Yet it's not reflecting in Igbo states IGR? What about the North where una boku? Why e no reflect in those states IGR as well? Smh. Maybe your governors should go to Ambode for tutelage on how he is maximizing those igbo traders you claim are 'umpiring Nigeria commerce', since the ones trading in your region are apparently prettymuch useless. You lots are just a bunch of loud-mouthed, delusional and empty chest-beating clowns. 7 Likes |

RockHard:yea any government that ignore Igbo traders is during that at the rick of it economy , apart from Lagos which we all know it come about is there any state in south west that can compete with any eastern state in terms of development and standard of living, The fact that the igbos were able to rise from the ashes of the civil war with just 20 pounds to bear a collection of Nigeria's most modern cities and people is just a testament of our mental superiority. Go to places that were not touched by a single bomb at all, and all you see are brown roofs, polio, poverty, mass illiteracy, religious fanaticism, backward socialism. God bless ndi-igbo.... |

ArabMopol: You folks keep deluding yourselves. Which development or standard of living are you yapping about please?? No be your people dey flee your region to the same SW for econmic survical?? If your standard of living is so great and you all are so developed, why do you keep constituting an economic nuisance and burden in other regions? Ogun state doesn't have igbo traders like Anambra or Enugu yet its last IGR was more than double those of Anambra and Enugu combined. Just CityView estate at Arepo, Ogun state alone floors all the mediocre buildings you all bandy about and mast.ur.bate over here. Some of us aren't as insecure as you lots who have to resort to dick-measuring to feel important, no time for that. Guy, go and play with your toy abeg. 5 Likes

RockHard:lol if we check very well 98% of shop owners in those mall u posted here are all Igbo's... Igbo's are travellers any where in this part of the world u did not find 1or 3 Igbo men please run for ur dear life that please is no go area, in such a short time that within three short decades the Igbos had closed the gap and quickly moved ahead as the group with the highest literacy rate, the highest standard of living, and the greatest of citizens with postsecondary education in Nigeria, earlier advantage of Yoruba as contingent on their location on the coastline, but once the missionaries crossed the Niger, the Igbo took advantage of the opportunity and overtook the Yoruba. the Igbo overcame the earlier Yoruba advantage within two decades earlier in the twentieth century. “Although the Yoruba had a huge historical and geographical head start, the Igbo wiped out their handicap in one fantastic burst of energy in the twenty years between 1930 and 1950.” the fear of the Igbos. They envy the Igbos who have done the impossible – standing up to their enemies; and exercising their inalienable rights to self preservation....

RockHard:lol how many Yoruba's can afford to live in such comfort u can't nah, such complex are meant for industrious hard working Igbo's , The Igbo ethnic nationality of Nigeria are the most technologically advanced Black race on planet earth, bar none! This is a fact. A fact that was proven to be true for 30 months while they were landlocked in their constantly shrinking enclave known as Biafra. Cut off from the rest of the world, the ingenuity of the Igbo came to the fore during the civil war as they constructed the Uli airstrip and when that airstrip was bombed, they repaired it in record time and under the most trying circumstances. They would go on to repair Uli not once and not twice. The Igbos refined petrol from a variety of non fossil fuels, including from but not limited to palm products (from which they also produced diesel) and manufactured surface to air missiles which they also adapted to surface to surface missiles (theOgbunigwe). They converted commercial planes to fighter jets and weaponized them. That was no mean feat in 1967. In fact, when in 2012, the Nigerian Army rolled out the igirigi and promoted it as the first indigenous armored personnel carrier, they were wrong. |

RockHard:A Yoruba man would rather rent a one-room apartment or go back to his village than pay 400-500k for a 2-bedroom flat in Lagos. Nigerians have known Yoruba's shiftiness and two sided loud- mouthing. I have said somewhere few days ago, that Mgbatis are ball-stripped and cannot do a shit in defense of themselves the way the Iyamirins did it earlier when the Fulanis, Hausas and the Yorubas determined to eliminate the Igbo tribe out of existence. Any Nigerian that has known the Yorubas or lived with them would wonder when a Yoruba could be trusted to mean what they say or do what they mean or be brave enough like the Igbos to affect a physical threat...Tufiakwa |

RockHard: No body is fleeing the east for south west and no body ever will igbos come to Lagos because of the over centralisation of Nigeria's diplomatic offices, consular offices, Nigeria deep ports, Nigeria maritime offixes, as igbos move for a deep sea port in Akwa ibom and Bayelsa, all these will change |
