You need to rethink before posting
1. Is the federal government the one sponsoring the bill?
2. Is VP in the NASS to sponsor or oppose Sharia bill?
3. We have several Christians in the National Assembly both in PDP and APC what are they looking and what are their function to oppose the bill?
4. Senate President VP is a Christian from SE, Speaker of the House of Assembly is a Christian from the north, why can't they oppose the bill?
5. Are you expecting VP to go to national assembly to oppose a bill?
6. I am waiting for what Twitter senator will twitte at the end of the day

That kind of bill cannot sail through because we have plenty Christian house members from both the north and the south, and the senate has not agreed to it yet...

What kind of response is this?

Federal Government is a make up of Executive, Legislative and Judicative. If Legislative sponsors the bill and passes it, which is likely considering the 2/3rd clause, then if its signed by the Executive it will become law.

If the Executive vetoes it from coming to law it is still a victory for the Legislature and becomes a negotiating instrument that can be sneaked into budget for the Executive's assent.

This is dangerous. If they make it a national law they will say its for muslims only. They can mandate it on all states, including SE states where muslim non-indigenes live.

There is nothing in constitution that regulates alcohol and liquor cconsumpton, or dress mode, but Sharia does. Therefore the consumption or sale of alcohol in states where Sharia is in effect may be at risk of shutting down. You will need an enforcement agency to make it work. Therefore a national Hisbah Force!

They have a model to use to justify their strategy. In Kano, a state under Hisbah, non-muslims live side by side with their muslim counterparts and do not suffer any discrimination. If Ibos can live in Kano and thrive there is no reason they cannot thrive if Hisbah is in Enugu.

The simple solution to this is to SHUT DOWN the reading in Senate and KILL it from passing.

I wish to state that....
There are many loopholes in our Constitution and Federation that a simple majority can exploit to enforce their conscience as the moral compass for the remaining 1/3 rd.

They have not been as ambitious exercising intrigues accessible in the gaping imbalance as I expect. If the political topography continues as is and with more awareness and incremental successes going to the 2/3 rd, they may in future invalidate all national institutions that are out of synch with their conscience and ambitions and institute a new and single order for the whole nation, and it will be modelled after the Northern customs.

And you think they can get 2/3 in the NA

You people are just paranoid, that bill cannot sail through

Pray, what do you want the VP to do to a private bill presented by a member for consideration at the National Assembly? Even if a Christian were to be the sitting president, what can he do at this stage?

There are 58 senators from the North and not all of them are Muslims. It requires 82 senators, 240 representatives and 24 states houses of Assembly to amend the constitution to make sharia applicable compulsorily throughout the federation. What are Christian legislators you people voted doing for it to be possible? And you are expecting Osinbajo to jump to the National Assembly to fight against a private bill?

Were Ekweremadu, Adeyeye, Akpabio, Olujimi and other Christian principal officers in the Senate sleeping when the bill was scheduled for deliberation?

This is part of the conditions given to the Fed. Govt. by Boko Haram, to make sharia a must in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, you and I know if it is passed into law, as it is almost, because it has passed the first reading and in the second, automatically and officially Nigeria will become an Islamic country. so this is a subtle scheme by the Buhari led administration to silently turn Nigeria to an islamic nation. that is the north's agenda gradually taking shape unchallenged by the minority Christian Senators and members of house, definitely Boko Haram is having its way through its apologists (the north) Christians should wake up from slumber and don't remain docile.

You guys lack perspective. A 71yr old Christian woman was unjustifiably slaughtered in Kano and her accusers have been released. Who will get judgement for her murder?

A Christian preacher in Abuja was murdered shortly after. No conviction.

A Christian man was lynched and almost killed for eating during ramadhan in Kaduna. No one has been convicted and serving time.

Yellow has been released for his kidnap and raype of 14 yr old Ese, a Christian.

In Katsina, their Emir said his kidnap and forcible conversion of a 14yr old and Christian he has added to his harem is irreversible.

These are just few of the many atrocities, reported or left unreported, in which justice has turned the other eye and left Northern muslims off hook for victimizing Christians across Nigeria. They were blatant, not hidden! Where is your so called Christian conscience defenders to stand against the Muslim oppression of Christians?

I want to see how you will stop Shariah bill from becoming law when you are impotent and voiceless to stop the violation of underage Christian girls snatched and impregnated with Muslim seeds. When you stop this atrocity then I will believe in your brag to stop Shariah bill.

Their stupidy is second to none my brother. They still do not know that turkey was a deeply rooted christain nation until it was conquered and turned into an islamic country. It's still thesame strategy they are using.

Don't mind them.

The docile Christian politicians have no idea what they are dealing with.

Imagine, even in the UK parliament (the country where our KJV legacy originated), the same so called "private bill" was proposed for the passage of sharia law into the British jurisdiction. Now, if folks could have the audacity to make such proposition in the UK, then tell me why Osibanjo is saying this crap in a country where it's said that up to 50% of the natives were born in islam?

Did you even notice he was not against making sharia a fedral law? To him that's given. He's merely talking about the universal application of same on all nigerians.

So dissappointing. Folks should just wake up and insist that every mention of religious law in our secular constitution should be blotted out ASAP.

And those anarchy mongers who are clamouring for the passage of sharia into the fedral laws should rather redirect their energy to clamouring for their own sharia republic.

Sharia Criminal laws are not permitted by the Constitution.
Sharia Civil Laws are permitted by the Constitution

Who knows whether Osinbajo, like many many Nigerians from the south, understands the difference between Sharia Civil Laws allowed in the constitution;
and Sharia Criminal Laws not allowed by the Constitution?

What people are agitated against is the Bill to include Sharia Criminal laws in the constitution.

Sharia Criminal laws include stoning women to death for adultery;
death for blasphemy;

What feeble set of people who do not recognise their right hand to the left. When do Christians think of having a law to enforce?

Can anyone of you Christians explain with biblican citations that all church programmes are in accordance with what in the Bible, when we are talking about law I think you people should go and sit down because you don't have any instead the west successfully brain wash you and follow suit all their ways of like and tag it as Christian ways.

We Muslims have law and we practice it wholeheartedly in all our endeavours, we don't compromise our creeds and we know what we want not what the west want and stood up again any force that will not allow us to achieve such.

Sharia law is here and has finally come to stay!

It has passed second reading and what does it signals..It signifies 90% islamisation process being completed and it will only take serious prayers and mercy of GOD for it not to come to pass..
You guys come on this platform ranting and complaining instead of praying. Don't forget the saying, "The children of darkness are wiser than the children of light"".

What are the positive impact the law you are trying to protect had in this country over the years? OK let us take Bible, tell the extent the churches enforce what is in it? Mr. VP please we Christians want to enact the laws of Moses and Jesus Christ. It won't be binding on Non Christians. I swear, Christians are the most docile set of people in Nigeria. The other day, a Christian was beheaded and her murderers were tried and absolved of all charges under Sharia law, what this meant is that Christians are tried under Sharia. VP you are a disappointment, you are not protecting the interest of Christians nor the South.

You seem to be quite ignorant and intolerant as a lot of Nigerian Christians, even after clear explanation and re-assurance of the vice president, who is not only an ordinary Christian but also a pastor, with much better knowledge than yourself.

Pray tell, where is the Sharia law, as currently practised in this country, being applicable to non-Muslims and how would any of the proposed amendments affect Christians?

Yes, by all means go ahead, I can assure you that no Muslim would stand in your way should you Christians wish to similarly adopt Moses law for your own exclusive use.

In addition, it may not have occurred to you that most of our laws were derived from English law which in turn were based on Cannon law - the main reason why our colonial masters appreciated the need and therefore allowed Sharia law for Muslims along with native law for traditionalists - in order to accommodate our diversity.

Lastly, try to always get your facts right; the woman was not beheaded but beaten to death by mob action - her husband had publicly and categorically denied such allegation.
As for acquitting her alleged assailants; the law is very clear, a judge cannot convict until a case is proven beyond reasonable doubt - no need saying that mob action crimes are usually the most difficult to prove; considering the almost zero conviction of the perpetrators of jungle in the south; who often strip naked, beat up and roast alive alleged criminals such as armed robbers, kidnappers, ritualists etc to death.

Finally, if you are still dissatisfied and insist upon their guilt and therefore conviction; well the door is not entirely closed; you may want to try persuading her family, your church or any other powerful Christian group e.g. CAN to take the matter forward, by way of appeal, right up to the supreme court.

For those asking what the osinbajo could have done. Since he's commenting on this, as a christian and as a so called pastor, he could have condemned this bill. He could have said this bill is not good for nigeria. He could have said this is wrong for millions of christains in nigeria but no, he has decided to be a politian about this instead of being a christian/pastor. I rest my case.
