Murtala then went up North to cross the River but was destroyed at the battle of Abagana. Murtala was then recalled from the war as a result of his monumental loses.

5) In his second coup in 1975, Murtala commited one of the worst act of Military indicipline when he retired everyone who was above him in rank the triple promoted him self from a one star Brigadier General to a full 4 star General in one go
