The Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shettima, says all Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps in the state would be closed down by May 29, 2017.

Shettima told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Maiduguri, the state has nearly two million displaced persons.

He said the government had placed priority on the reconstruction of communities destroyed by Boko Haram insurgents, to facilitate the return of IDPs to their towns and villages.

“We have reconstructed Bama by 25 per cent; my target is to reach 50 per cent by the end of this year and 75 per cent by first quarter of 2017.

“I want to close down all IDP camps latest May 29, 2017, because the IDP camps are becoming a huge problem on their own.

“If we allow the entrenchment of these IDP camps, they are pregnant with loads of challenges of early child marriage, prostitution, drug abuse, gangsterism.

“And we will be confronted with huge social challenges of an entitlement complex of people feeling that they are entitled to be catered for.

“So in as much as we observe the Kampala convention, we will not compel anybody to return to their communities.

“We know our people better than any other persons and it is not for somebody seating in Abuja, Paris, London, US and any other places to dictate to us on how we should live our lives.

“Our people in spite of their poverty, still have some pride left in them, a lot of them will rather go back to their communities and eat the guinea corn and millet than to eat your rice and chicken in the IDP camps.

“This is why we want to restore the dignity of our people by rebuilding their homes, rebuilding their schools, engaging them in gender empowerment initiatives so as to enable them return back to their homes, ” Shettima said.

According to him, “by December we are taking back all the people of Kaga Local Government Area.”

Shettima believed that with time, Nigerians would appreciate the modest accomplishment of the state towards the resettlement of the IDPs.(NAN)

These people are just funny, why not be sure Boko Haram has been completely defeated before fixing dates for the closure?

That is how they deceived those people to go back to their homes and villages last time with the belief that boko Haram had been defeated only for them to be slaughtered like rabbits.

Beebeeooh , what do you have to say about this?

The failed government and their zombie supporters will surely count this as an achievement undecided

Despite the menacing Bokoharam still burning down villages and also still trying to gain entry into the IDP camp.

The government want to send this hapless souls into their death, just to avoid feeding them.

I bet you, the cost of feeding in the government house is more than the cost of feeding the IDP

What a shame cry

Beebeeooh , what do you have to say about this?

They simply can no longer feed them.
This people are better fed in the captivity of Bokoharam than in the hands of their government undecided

Hence, the urgency to send them back into the hands of Bokoharam undecided

Why send them back now?

Has it not been avenue for Shetima and other politicians to steal money, how much has the Government of Borno state contributed to the keep of these IDPs if not for the donations by NGOs and well meaning individuals?

Maybe rebuilding their homes is a more lucrative business than feeding and keeping them.

It's this level of thinking that allowed Boko Haram to become the menace that it is now.

Replace all these useless executive governors with proven leaders from other parts of the country or force them out of the union of Nigeria to their own devices, if they refuse to embrace reason.

.....lady this issue is not a local one look at europe now with the influx of syrians and others and many countries cant cope with the displaced people. It doesnt take only money to cater for dem, have u been to an idp camp b4?....alot of other issues cant be controlled. if u read well he said they have rebuilt about 25% of bama and maybe by nxt year it will be 75%,thats borno second largest city and others too. Security is returning little by little.what again do u want the gov to do....to feed 2million people, cloth them and pay there medical bills aint easy...instead of u castigating hope that the state gov can intensify effort to meet its deadline.

Maybe they are planning to use them against another government/party after Nigerians send Buhari, recessions and Dogara/budget padding gangs packing in 2019.

if the people don't occupy their land it makes easier for book Haram to hide and remain for long. Now that boko Haram has been severely weakened the people can assist the govt's in the final sweeping and they can also go back to their farms/jobs and help build this country. God bless Nigeria
