Hater spotted. Yes, in the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is indeed king. So yes in a non-performing state like Nigeria, the likes of Ambode must be celebrated as again the chelsea drinking likes of Fayose. We celebrate what we have so they can be encouraged to do more

Sycophant spotted. No in the land of sycophants and mediocrity celebrants, politicians throw little crumbs like "roundabout redesign" on the media and they shout Uhuru.

We need to get our priorities right and make government accountable! Why were they voted in the first place?

To be praised for roundabouts abi?

The round-abouts make sense in some places but in others it's a waste of space and only causes confusion.

Let's not discount the chaos especially around law school axis during rush hour (despite the traffic lights)

Hopefully this proposal works on that lekki-ajah route.

Miss that zone tho
Please kindly tell me one place where these ubiquitous annoying roundabouts work?Just one, I am really ready to learn about the existence of such a place in Lagos. In fact, the worst of them is Allen round about!!! The police and lastma guys have turned that place to nightmares .Commit any slight traffic offence, you are officially their ATM machine that day!!

From experience, the size of the roundabouts is less than a quarter of the problem. More than 50% of the problem is from the wickedness and selfishness of the road users. Another 25% or so could be attributed to the inefficient and ineffective enforcement of traffic laws.

If there's no enforcement, this design may still not solve the problem as you will see vehicles with sirens and police escorts join whichever lane is shorter only to get to the front and make their turns whichever way they want. It is only a matter of time before Danfos and some stupid private drivers join the madness.

dy re some part of lagos dat av dat good look while some part re lyk death trap am nt sure ambode know that those part exist on d map of lagos.

He does!
One thing I have observed about Ambo is that he doesn't do media hyping. I once tweeted him about the bad portion of the road at Ile Zinc, Oshodi-Iyana Ipaja expressway. Lo and behold it was fixed within 48hrs. He fixed Megida-Alaja road, Megida-Aiyetoro road; all in Ayobo. I'm sure if some governors fix just 2KM road, the whole media must hear am. One thing Ambo has shown is that; Infrastructure needs not be a source of media propaganda. I know my in-laws' governor would have assaulted us with media 'efisy' if they do a quarter of what he's doing.
Anyway, they are known to chest beat on even the tiniest advantage.

Leave the roundabout alone before you damage the road. There are places in Lagos without roads. When Ambode leaves office the next Governor would want to build an underground pedestrian crossing on that spot too.

Fashola would NEVER do this. He was more interested in completing the 2ND tollgate and collecting fare without a viable bypass. Doesn't mind the suffering of the people as long as revenue is pouring in. Ambode is a true leader with a heart of Gold. Halted collection of fares on the 2nd toll, building an alternative route and the flyover at Ajah and reworking the bogus roundabouts that were built solely for advert revenue by fashola. We appreciate Abode and pray God guides him through his tenure.

My thoughts exactly

are you a Nigerian, or have you ever lived in Nigeria? every society has its peculiarities. people like you often use America or Britain as a parameter in all your judgements. Nigeria neither America nor Britain. several governors have come and gone since 1999 without doing anything tangible, in stead, looted their respective states and heavens didn't fall. therefore, when you see a semblance of performance from any of them, nothing wrong in appreciating such. it doesn't make you less sophisticated or a sycophant.

This design is adding salt to injury. This is an outdated design. The best solution is to construct grade-separated intersection(over head bridge). That way through traffic will not be delay.

COMPAQ:
I am not convinced these designs will do the trick! it still means stopping at junctions, which will slow down traffic. Lagos is a city that doesn't need to be stopped even for a second. A better design would be one that would just loop you to the other side of the road, like the Abuja airport road or the return loop at the second toll gate that you use to return to the opposite lane. That way there is no stoppage at all.

God Bless you... The best response so far for anyone who really studied the video and has observed the situation on ground
This proposed idea wont still work or improve the situation in anyway. A quick study of that video on the 5th Roundabout would show you anyone from the Lekki - epe expressway willing to take a left turn toward the road / street beside the new Stoprite mall can practically make no turn at all

It is pure wickedness for federal Govt not to grant Lagos special status. Even to maintain the abandoned federal structures therein is a huge task. Thank God for digital leadership experience that is making things to work in Lagos. God bless the Governor.

This long epistle just to justify roundabout redesign.

My grouse is with this project please. What will it really take to clear the large circle there that the people will start praising Ambode for, not that he is constructing a new road or anything.

No need praising a Governor in this instance unless we are just some politically hypnotised hallelujah boys

Yes we accept, you must accept who you are first before you can aspire for greatness, rather having our heads in the cloud like you. And for your shout of performance according to global standards I wont be surprised if your own family members wont vote for you if you contest for an elective post. Very easy to condemn when you dont have the slightest clue of the challenges of leadership.

Good Point!

I don't know why it's difficult for some people to reason properly. A redesigned junction has become a jingle for scoring cheap political points.

The electorates/citizens will never learn!

These solutions will not work as long as vehicles have to cross oncoming lane. The arrangement just before and after second toll gate is better.

all the roundabouts on that lekki-epe road need FLYOVERS

This is the only solution. Anything else is a waste of time. Without flyovers, the gridlock at those junctions during rush hour will always be hell. Common sense is not common. They were told when LCC was busy wasting money expanding the roundabouts. They have been told again. In 4 years time, they will make another useless allocation to "fix" the congestion.

Any sensible person elected as Lagos State governor will perform, and you know why?

1. Lagos is the economic hub of Nigeria and Africa, and as a result, it has the highest IGR (Internally Generated Revenue), which makes huge amount of fund readily available for the governor and government of Lagos State to embark on developmental projects

2. Majority of people living in Lagos are economically productive and pay direct/indirect tax to Lagos State government unlike South-south states that generate majority of their fund from Federal Government allocation, but with huge wastage, infrastural/human destruction, increased security cost, etc resulting from militancy that's peculiar with any economy that's dependent on natural mineral resource.

3. Less oppostion. All thanks to Bola Tinubu who made frantic efforts in the past decades to kill every emerging opposition party in Lagos State. This makes it less stressful for any Lagos State governor to initiate and execute developmental projects without much delay from the state assembly.

4. Unique tribe and culture. Leading Lagos State is easy because Lagos is a homogenous tribe; Yoruba, unlike other states in the north and south-south were you will have more than 6 different tribes in one state speaking over 10 different dialects, making it difficult for there to be unification because each tribe will be fighting for their tribe's interest to the detriment of other tribes in the state.

Take Delta State for in stance.

This is the same challenges Nigeria is facing today, and Fashola has now realised that being successful as a Lagos State governor is not the same with being a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.

So in conclusion, any sensible adult can perform as a governor of Lagos State...to test that person's ability to excel, give him or her a national leadership role and watch the outcome.

Football fans have also argued in this same direction in regards to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi who has only played in one club; Barcelona, compared to C. Ronaldo who has played and excelled in different clubs in different European countries.

Your head is there. Ori e kpe juh. Your papa and mama will not be disappointed. Money well spent on you. Don't mind all the people making noise. Isn't the economy of Lagos, like the 5th or 6th biggest in Africa or sonething like that. Any Governor of Lagos that does not perform would have to be a retard based on the amount of resources and revenue available.
