I have friends who graduated from sciences they either doing their master or teaching/lecturing in a school. I graduated 2011 so I know what I'm talking about. Okay, tell me where in Nigeria will a microbiologist work, anatomy still feasible (I know of an anatomy graduate who wrote Ecobank Interview with me back in the days), how many companies employ chemistry/ biology/ mathematics graduates. From my experience I had in job application I have never come across where a company or organization needs a maths/chemistry/biology graduates except schools and university these groups(set of graduates) only gets an opportunity in other sectors only when is stated "we need graduates" irrespective of what you have studied. I put to you 70% of the students now in science (physical and medical science) didn't choose that profession it was due ro admission problem probably did not meet cut off point (high cut off)
You are obviously uninformed and I don't blame you per se, but the crooked environment we have found ourselves.

For your information, I 've seen NNPC adverts which specifically requested the services of zoologists/microbiologists as Pollution Control Officer, and I'm reliably informed there are zoologists working in that regard, in the corporation. Many governmental and non-governmental organizations with likelihood of environmental impacts through their operation, require the services chemists, botanists, zoologists, geologists etc.

There's a Wildlife hazard control unit in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. Whose service do you think they 'll require there? Economists, Engineers or medical doctors? I'm sure you know the answer.

Are you aware that Goodluck Jonathan worked as an Assistant Director in a government parastatal that's environment-related, after acquiring his PhD and before he ventured into politics?

And for your information, every field is going environmental, thanks to the climate change which now popularizes natural sciences.

Are you aware there are many nations on the continent whose economic mainstay is their environment? In those nations, zoologists, botanists etc are better appreciated than ours.

Leave Geologist out of this, hmm that NNPC adverts is once in 10 years and apart from NNPC what other companies. Come on, I'm talking about re-occurring adverts day in day out. Oh yea after he got his "Ph.D", there are organizations but very few ones who need the services chemist, biologist, zoologist, Government job is for everyone even does who study language gets a job, I'm talking about multinationals with good pay jobs. The OP is referring to Nigeria only. You made no point stop ranting unnecessarily.

You wouldn't get it. There's no point arguing blindly with you. Half education will blind you to the obvious fact that NNPC is just one out of the many oil companies in Nigeria, and if NNPC could have such offices, they must be replicated in other public and private oil companies, including the DPR which are the regulators.

Re: Courses You Should Not Study If You cannot hustle by rusher14: 2:43pm On Dec 03, 2016
It is rare to find an organisation interested in employing one without already having some skill set.

In spite of this, the numerical science disciplines - Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, etc. Have wide ranging applications from actuarial to geophysics to Radiometry etc.

They make good data analysts, programmers, auditors and such but the key is specialising in an area of interest not expecting employment to fall on your laps.

Those in chemistry, botany and plant science need to start applying their knowledge in perfumery, pharmaceuticals, breweries etc. without needing to always work for the established names.

Everyone needs food, clothing and shelter all these have their respective applications not needing extreme knowledge base.

Last last the Nigerian youth has to understand their is no free lunch. Stop waiting for the big companies to come employ you. There are too many needs that can be met by simple application.

I can understand not having the immediate wherewithal to setup your own business but a lab technician should be self sustaining.

It depends on your versatility.

Nigerians spend a lot on regular lab services due to the inadequacy of our hospitals.

Breweries, NAFDAC, NDLEA, manufacturing companies such as PZ, pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer (is that still their name)?

The military need such people as well, WHO and such bodies... The fact remains you don't really need to wait for employment though it is understandable you gain experience.

In Nigeria, Some students immediately after finishing their final exam in the university starts jibilating, celebrating and doing all weird things to celebrate their final examination. Unknown to many of them, that is just the begining of pontential waywardness and severe career.and employment challenge. As a new era termed "hustling era" had just begun. So if you don't have the strength or creative enough to hustle , DO NOT NEAR THE FOLLOWING COURSES.

1) Philosophy, Sociology and anthropology, Psychology, Geography, History, Public Administration

2) Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Industrial chemistry.

3) Biochemistry, Anatomy, Microbiology, Physiology.

4) Zoology, Botany,

5) Agric courses, Education courses

People who study these courses may eventually opted for masters to become a lecturer where they will equally be subjected to work for many years to become a Professor while other due to unemployment may be subjected to other business.

ever since as I started reading ur post and u make one things to destroy it is that agric dp
