Ogonis Voted Massively For APC Because Of UNEP Report Implementation by drshrewd: 12:49pm On Dec 12, 2016
The Results from the just concluded legislative elections in Rivers State especially those of Rivers South-East Senatorial district has shown that the people of Ogoni spoke anonymously in one voice. this is clearly not unconnected with the levity with which the PDP lead government under the leadership of Goodluck Jonathan handled the UNEP report.

The United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) report on Ogoniland was released on August 4, 2011 confirming claims by local communities and civil society groups that there exists an ecological disaster in the area. The report also showed hydrocarbon pollution in surface water throughout the creeks of Ogoniland and up to eight centimeters in groundwater that feed drinking wells. One of the recommendations in the UNEP report is for a committee to be constituted by the Federal Government to oversee and handle the process of remediation and restoration. One of the main contents of the report, the establishment of a restoration fund for Ogoni, with an initial sum of $1 billion by Shell and the Federal Government. this Recommendations laid fallow in the office of the then president for over four years without any sort of commitment to implementing it despite the president coming from that region.

Behold, an APC government lead by Mohamed Buhary a northern with less than a year in office kicked off the implementation of UNEP report to the delight of the affected region. the first phase of the Ogoni clean up is ongoing and the oginis feels that they have no other choice than to lean on APC candidates for speedy and smooth implementation of the report.

This sentiment seems to have reverberated to within other neighboring LGA in Rivers hence the latest upturn of Result in Favour of the opposition party in Rivers.

There was no election in river state

They just pick the result sheet and write results with the help of Nigeria army and police...INEC officials as well.
