It's so sad how people concentrate more on the wedding ceremony than the success of the marriage itself.

It's not a bad thing to celebrate your wedding in the grandest of ways, but if you choose to diversify and be different from what other people are doing then it's nobody's business as long as it's not a crime.

We are all blaming recession. Have these people settled down to ask themselves if something else may have happened? What if the caterer to bring the cake came late and so they had to improvise? And so what if they decide not to use cake at all?

I mean what's all the fuss about? It's their wedding. What should matter most is their happiness after the whole "gra gra" here and there.

And na our girls carry this thing for head pass.

There are things that ought to be taken seriously...and a wedding ceremony is part of it...

And I don't agree with the above reasons u stated,why?..cos mere looking at the environment u will realize that they ain't able to afford a cake!

My opinion...it is better they don't use anything at all than use a basket of rice and smoked fish!.?gosh!

All of you that are making unnecessary noise here, how many of your grandfathers and mothers used 'cake' at their wedding?
is cake part of your tradition?
this is a traditional wedding and they obviously stuck to it... please borrow sense and realise that cake is not part of anybody's tradition as long you are an african. Not everybody buys into colonial brainwash. I wonder how many europeans drink palmwine at their weddings...

remove yourself from colonial mentality! cake is not an african tradition, like so many other things (white wedding inclusive) it is a borrowed culture entrenched by colonial brainwash!
