SOUTHERN KADUNA SELF DEFENCE IN HISTORY
Religious attacks in the the North didn't just start. Self defence by the people of southern Kaduna didn't start with pastors of vengeance.
There were many attacks before the Zango-Kataf attacks of 1992. As a result of past attacks, the southern Kaduna communities were well prepared in advance especially in Zango-Kataf. As the attackers were coming, armed southern Kaduna natives, including resident Ibo traders mounted achaba (okada) with guns. Many attackers' dead bodies were on the ground. It was the first time in May 1992 that the attackers were killed. Zamani Lekwot and others were arrested for supplying the weapons that the Christians in southern Kaduna used to defeat the islamic militants. Zamani Lekwot was governor of Rivers State in 1975. He and others were tried unfairly and convicted under a decree titled The Civil Disturbances (Special Tribunal)
Act, in which Part IV, Section 8 (1) provides:
"The validity of any decision, sentence, judgment, ... or order given or made, ... or any other thing whatsoever done under this Act shall not be inquired into in any court of law."
That was the case of Zamani Lekwot and Others v. The Judicial Tribunal. They were sentenced to death but the death sentences were later commuted to jail terms.
In my book titled FUNDAMENTAL ISSUES IN NIGERIAN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW, the following passage appears "The Courts will only hold that they have no jurisdiction when it is very clear that their jurisdiction has been ousted. If the ouster does not cover the matter concerning the person affected, the courts are likely to hold that their jurisdiction has not been ousted. In LEKWOT V. JUDICIAL TRIBUNAL, (1993) 2 NWLR (Pt. 273) 410, the Court of Appeal held that Decree No. 13 of 1984 re-enacts the supremacy of Decrees as the groundnorm or the organic law of the land and the competence of the Federal Military Government cannot be challenged, nor would their validity or invalidity be questioned in any Court. They lend efficacy and potency to Edicts promulgated, as an Edict cannot stand on itself. The Court of Appeal further held that before the jurisdiction of the courts could be said to be ousted by an ouster provision, the policy of the ouster must cover the subject matter in question, that is, on the facts and in the circumstances of the particular case, the courts' jurisdiction has indeed been ousted."

The Suthern Kaduna people still know better how to defend themselves.

It's the same history repeating itself again. And we are waiting.
Ever wondered why they hardly condemn those fulani murderers but are quick to attack any one asking the victims to defend themselves?

Back in 1992, none of the attackers were convicted, but they were quick to unfairly convict those who defended themselves to death.
This is the Nigeria we find ourselves.
