2019 Presidential Poll: Forget Obasanjo, Igbos Must Wait Till 2023 - ITC by femimailbox(m): 7:20pm On Jan 27, 2017
A civil society organisation named the Igbo Conscience Group (ITC), has urged Igbos to ignore the call by former President Olusegun Obasanjo for Igbo presidency in 2019.

The ITC made the call on Thursday, January 26, charging people from the South-East region of the country to look unto 2023.

Mr Onyekachi Ubani, Chairman of the group said in Lagos that such call was capable of causing political miscalculation on the part of the region that may lead to misunderstanding with other parts of country.

According to Vanguard, Ubani said that unless there is a concensus from the people from the Northern and Western part of the country for Igbo presidency in 2019, then the Igbo’s should wait for 2023 before presenting candidates for the office.

He said the Igbo’s should avoid political miscalculation that happened in the past which brought former President Goodluck Jonathan.

“By now it would have come down to south and a southerner would have taken over and maybe we can maintain some level of fragile peace.

“But we saw what happen for the six years that Jonathan was there. Now that crisis created is what President Muhammadu Buhari is also reaping from the south-south because the south-south people are blowing up the oil pipelines and all that.

“So anyone now encouraging Igbos to begin to fight for the presidency of this country in 2019 is clearly trying to encourage Igbos to enter into unnecessary conflicts and create more crises for the nation.

“Igbos should not in any way take that particular thing he has thrown at us because it may create crisis and create animosity for Igbos and even make Igbos not to have the opportunity of producing the presidency at the right time – in 2023.

Obasanjo while hosting the Christian Association of Nigeria, Ogun Chapter on Tuesday said that the region has yet to produced a democratically elected president of the country.

According to Obasanjo, the problem of marginalisation and justice has been a major source of conflict between ethnic and regional division.

Reactions had trailed Obasanjo’s call for an Igbo presidency in 2019 from different Igbo group commending and rejecting the call.

Never taken OBJ's comments about Igbo presidency seriously.
2019 is open, but Igbos should be more calculative than what we have on ground.

This is why i see any igbo man campaigning for Atiku 2019 as mentally deranged. Buhari is a terrible president but nigeria as seen worse before. All fulanis are the same whether buhari, atiku or saraki. The best option is to allow this nightmare of buhari's presidency run its full course and then in 2023, all the major political parties will know it is igbo turn and we just have to select the best igbo from the lot.

This Mr Ubani is a stupid man. It was him and Joe Yorubakwe who adviced Igbos to forget their God given right to self determination and embrace the colonial system of slavery called 'one Nigeria'.

The same Mr Ubani is now talking about 2019/2023 and Igbos should go and lick the a$$ of the Northerners and Yorubas just for the useless office of President of Nigeria.

Does Mr Ubani know that Gambia is an indepedent country of just 1.8 million people? About the population of the city of Enugu.

How can any sane Igbo man be talking about the 45 million strong Igbo nation to be licking a$$ in this day and age?

Ubani is crazy

On the contrary we igbo have resolved that we want nothing more than Biafra. We are done with this unfruitful and disastrous marriage with Nigeria.

I guess you have no idea how pathetic you sound. A Gambia of just 1.8 million people was brilliant enough to chart it's course to freedom while over 40 million Igbo still roam the wilderness of the red soil in slavery with no shame. When will your kinsmen man up n fight for your freedom or why can't you chart a diplomatic course to earn your freedom now that you have realised your lousy loud mouth or chest beating won't earn you one ?

Whether 2019 or 2023, Igbo should show interest from now. The fact is that no region even the north will fold arm for South east to take Nigeria president on the platter of gold.

Pathetic is for those who have done nothing and are still doing nothing to get emancipation. Who else in Nigeria has broken awayband created a separate state? Who else in Nigeria has fought the Nigerian state in a civil war to get independence? Who else has engaged the entire military strenght of Nigeria for 3 years? Who else is still protesting to this day, demanding independence?

Only the great Igbo nation. Only them can do all of the above in Nigeria and have done it. The rest are just slaves of "Lord Lugard". Nobody is going to go by any diplomatic channel to leave Nigeria. Diplomacy isnt what created Nigeria
