Army apprehends soldiers responsible for molesting helpless disable

The Nigerian army has confirmed the capture of two soldiers who physically beat up a crippled man for wearing military fatigues in Onitsha, Anambra state recently. The soldiers were nabbed after a video displaying their acts of violence on the disabled man caused a major outcry.

In a statement signed by Brigadier general Sani Kusheka, the army stated that the soldiers will be charged for assault. The statement read;

The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a video clip in which two soldiers were seen maltreating a physically challenged person for allegedly wearing a camouflage shirt.

We wish to inform the public that the incident took place on Tuesday 7th February 2017, at Onitsha, Anambra State.

In line with our zero tolerance for acts of indiscipline and unprofessional conducts especially in relation to violation of human rights, we wish to further state that the soldiers involved have since been identified and apprehended.

They have also been charged for assault by their Commanding Officer.

Similarly, troops have been warned to desist from such acts that infringe on human rights and cast serious aspersions on the good image of the Nigerian Army.

The public should please regard this ugly incident as an isolated case which is not true reflection of the Nigerian Army.

You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to the public through your medium.

Thank you for your kind cooperation.

He used their camo. I agree it is wrong. But why not hand him over to appropriate authorities? We all need Orientation Not only the soldiers. Many nairalanders will make mouth here to condemn the act. But give them that same uniform tomorrow. They will flex muscle.

Until we are sincere about ourselves, see ourselves part of the rotten system, everything remains unchanged the same. CHANGE BEGINS WITH ME

That has always been their standard reply. You wont hear from them again. They might just redeploy the guys and that is it. Yet somebody needs to go in for this.. What is even so wrong about wearing their useless camo? Even in so-called communist countries, you see civilians wearing camo! This guys get away with all sorts of nonsense. Untill civilians start hitting them back, this wont end. Where do you even start to beat up a handicapped person for heavens sake? All these illiterate IDP/civilian JTF recruits..

They will leave them after all this outrage is over.

I just wonder what type of country we have. Soldiers are not even supposed to molest an able bodied person like that, talk more a disabled man in a wheel chair!
Men, these soldiers are heartless. This is the type of thing that makes you wanna own a pump action.

You are so on point. We are just too wicked to ourselves. We like to oppress the weak, and are too cowardly to speak out against oppression. That is why our country is in this state.

The hypocrisy in this country is appalling.

This is the last you will hear of this: no way to even verify if any disciplinary action would be taken against those animals. Just to pacify the public outcry, they put up this press release.

Rubbish!

You can't hit them back with violence, they will then have a legal reason to perpetrate greater violence.

We must hit them back with superior intellect and emotional stability.

Emotional stability in the sense that we should not forget this case, but should keep it alive until sanctions are meted out to those morons.

The problem with Nigeria is that people seem not to understand that it is when we actively pursue common objectives that things can get better.

We have this warped mentality of a big brother somewhere, who is supposed to handle every problem our society.

When issues happen, we just start complaining and complaining that things are not getting done, and just leave it like that.

That is the weakness in this our society!

Why cant some fire-brand SAN offer the physically challenged man free legal service to pursue this case to the highest extent?

Cant the media continue to bring up this case regularly to ensure it doesn’t die out, without appropriate punishments issued the culprit.

Can't some of us here who has connection to powerful politicians and those in govt not speak out so that this case can be tackled from the top?

Can't a protest be carried out against these incessant police/military brutality?

These things are not happening because we as a people has failed. Not only those in power (big brother), that all of us like to blame for everything.

Countries that have good govts, it didn't just come, they evolved into a good govt by the steps taken by the citizenry.

I was so shocked that this cowardly assault happened in a market place, and everyone just went about their business as if it's no big deal.

People keep quiet because they are not the victims, that is how we'll continue to keep quiet until the system gets totally rotten.

In fact, civil defence guys that doesn't have any liver before, has also started assaulting people, and we are still keeping quiet. We are so cowardly in this country. Na only gra gra we get.

Whenever I confront these uniformed men in Lag, people will just be tapping and pulling me to keep shut. Sometimes, even the oppressed will be the one begging to just leave the issue. How long? How long my people are we going to remain docile and other people privileged to be in employment of where they bear arms continue to oppress the weak?

Let one illiterate rich Senator/Honourable/Minister/Chairman, go past that place now, with same camouflage cap, you will see those idiotic MPs laughing and even saluting him. But when it comes to the lowly in the society, that is when they will start flexing muscles.

What a cowardly set of people we are.

Fayose that has been flexing around with camouflage, ordinary verbal caution, they can't dare issue him. But if it's the lowly in the society or even a physically challenged man that can't defend himself, they will be forming Commando.

The army cannot give justice...Those guys need to be charged before a competent court of law...And sentenced appropriately.... All military checkpoints have now also become tolling points....Is the military HQ also unaware of that too?

Good one. I hope they get the punishment they deserve for bringing the force to such dishonour.

My greatest surprise in the whole episode was that people stood by only to watch and take pictures and made no attempt to stop the men from doing what they were doing; yet the way these people sound on social media you'd think just a single one of them could take on an entire batallion of the Nigerian army.

Smh.

What a country, how can a human inflict such pain on a cripple. The heart of a black man is wickedly wicked.

Just imagine the reason because he wore camouflage. Pathetic Lunatics parading themselves in military uniform. Sumtym ago a military man was sentenced 7years in prison for killin sum1, just 7years what a country and nobody said anytin not even the so called lawyers.

How about those that bombed the IDP what has happened to them NOTHING. It was called a mistake and sum of us here politicised, some where for because they are Zombies and others against Wailers. After 2 weeks tins returned back to normal and everybody moved on to the next trending stories.

I hate to b called a Nigerian. We have the worst set of youth in the world.

What's this one saying...this is what happens when u are not exposed...a cripple wearing an army camo( not full uniform ) on the ground begging...how is he a threat?? Soldiers just love to intimidate citizens for no reason and this has to stop... We want to b like America but the citizens like u are just fearful... In any sane country, the citizens should respect police more than soldiers, but in Nigeria, its a different case

Two things you must never attempt to capture on camera.
(1)Ongoing armed robbery /kidnap operation.
(2)Policemen, armed with Gun, collecting bribe.
No try am o.
You might not live to upload those pictures or video.
