Areas that need deregulations include the Upstream sector that is alotted to croonies and political jobbers. Deregulate the senate and make it part time job and run a unicamera house., deregulate the geo political zones and let each region to use resource in its domain and contribute 23 % to the centre.

Obj proposed the deregulation and estimated the cost as 100 naira per liter, if we had done it then, investors would have built refineries and the price would have dropped by now due to competition. Well better late than never, I hope they privatise the moribund refineries too.

Is our memory too short?:• In 2016 this was said:

"Buhari is a failure for appointing his VP, a professor of law, to head his economic team....I implore him to look for capable hands whether in Nigeria or in the Diaspora, or whether in the APC or the PDP to be in his economic team"
...Senator Ben Murray-Bruce

• And on February 25, 2017 this was said:

"Whatever it is that Vice President Yemi Osinbajo is doing to strengthen the Naira, he should teach his boss Buhari whenever he returns"
...Senator Ben Murray-Bruce

AND THE NEXT ONE:

• In January 2015 (during the presidential election campaigns) this was said:

"Pastor Yemi Osinbajo is a disgrace to Christianity for joining the evil APC Islamic party, and for agreeing to run with Buhari..."
...Femi Fani-Kayode

• And on February 25, 2017 this was said:

"Yemi Osinbajo is God's gift to the APC"
...Femi Fani-Kayode

My enemies will turn around and eat their shit!
Amen?

...We are talking about deregulations, you are ranting about your 'enemies..Stop derailing threads with this nonsense.'.You can open a thread for that.

With the so-called fuel subsidy; Nigerians did not experience any positive development in their lives. Attempts to remove it in the past have always been met with strikes and protests. What has changed?

Essentially, deregulation means that fuel marketers can set their prices which would lead to an initial hike to as high as 400 per liter, then as competition s3ts in, prices could drop to. As low as 100 per liter.

Good example: GSM which has been deregulated from day one. Initial high prices (5000 for sim) then crashed to 400 as competition set in

Gsm and fuel cants be compared...... there are alternatives to gsm purchase.. fuel is extremely essential and affects virtually everything in our daily lives.... from food to transport to work to income etc..... this is not the best time, coupled with this dollar issue at hand..

we complain of food stuff and why the increase , now we want to add fuel to it?......

He did. But most Nigerians were too fixated on cheap fuel to care about possible long term benefits.

The same kind of reasoning was what scuttled the idea too under GEJ.

Very true...but den again, we all know that the money recovered from said will be squandered and looted by many to enrich demselves rather dan use to the benefit of the general population.
If only we had good leaders....

You're wrong , same thing was said in 2016. Has prices dropped?
How will competition lower prices when cost of acquisition is high?

Many thanks for the feedback and the accompanying link.
It shows that Obasanjo expressed a DESIRE to deregulate and remove subsidy.
However, the retired army General and military Head of State did not go beyond that declared desire unlike Jonathan who got all 36 governors to not only agree with the deregulation and subsidy removal, but to also own it.
Moreover, don't you consider it devilish that Obasanjo remained quiet in January 2012 when the deregulation was IMPLEMENTED, even though many of our fellow citizens call him baba and elder statesman?
Is it not devilish?
Or perhaps it is a clear manifestation of the fact that his expressed DESIRE was a ploy to increase fuel prices several times while still unable to address fuel scarcity and the resulting hardship for the people whom he swore to protect?

Corruption, which has grown by leaps and bounds under the rotten nose of the sick old man who is supposed to be fighting corruption.
We were told that his ears have problems, but obviously his nose is even more problematic.
