Instead of our government to come up with a policy that discourages high birth rate, they keep releasing overpopulation figures on yearly basis. By next year, we may just be told our population has reached 200 million. Isn't overpopulation one of the reasons we now have herdsmen-native clash, when herdsmen have to relocate in their numbers to greener environments since their own native space can't accommodate them all, any longer?

Because of proliferation like rats? Aside Pakistan and Bangladesh which procreate like those in northern Nigeria due to a common factor, which other country in ghe top 10 is not better than Nigeria economy-wise? Don't forget also that those countries have much larger land areas than NIGERIA and some are as large as a continent. We are not even among the largest in Africa based on land area and yet population keeps increasing by the day.

Are you aware that with overpopulation comes increasing competition for more space for human needs? If our population continues growing at the current rate, how will we be able to sustain our environment for generations yet unborn.

I hope our government will wake up someday and even reverse that revenue allocation formula such that states with lowest birth rates get lion shares of the national cake. This is just one out of the many policies that could check our shameful and incessant population growth.

I expect all Nigeria leaders to resign after seeing this.

USA, Brazil, India are economic stable. We can't even contest against them even with our high resources yet we are competing only by population which doesn't in anyway assure peace or make things easy.

I smh for this country. All Nigeria leaders past, present or dead should all be ashamed for not leading this country right. It's a shame. Big SHAME.

Nigeria is not overpopulated. Is it true that Nigeria and Africa is over crowded and moving towards an unsustainable population level?.
"No. Absolutely not". Overcrowding can be measured by one method only, that is whether there are too many people to fit in the space available. Population density is calculated by dividing the number of people by area. Population density is usually shown as the number of people per square kilometer. The most densely populated continent area in the world is Europe, yes EUROPE, but do Europeans think there are too many people in Europe? Of course not. Do the europeans use the word overpopulation when they talk about the european population?.Of course not. But they believe there are too many African and Asian people in the world. That is not overcrowding that is racism". Why they dont want to use "population control" in Europe when they know that The most densely populated continent area in the world is Europe?.

Nigeria is definitely not up to 191m people. our population census have been politicized by the northerners being the basis of sharing national resources and the southerners have inculcated the habit of overstating her population.

Let me ask you the following questions.
1. What was the last population estimate of Nigeria as at last census and what is it now (after about 10 years)? We were told our population was about 120 million in 2006 but is now about 190 million. Does that suggest anything to you? If those figures are anything to go by, what do you think our population will be by 2050?

2. Is Nigeria's land area increasing? I'm sure you know the answer is obvious. NO.

3. If our population continues to grow at the current rate while space remains the same, what will be our fate in the nearest future?

4. You cited the case of Europe, are you aware that birth rate is extremely low in most European nations? As a matter of fact, most have their populations being buffered by immigrants. The population of Great Britain which is an amalgamation of nations is just about one third of ours, and yet you support high population growth in Nigeria and Africa.

I can't agree with you less. Our population couldn't have increased by 70 million in the space of 10 years even if some sectors of the country chose to marry as many wives as possible and procreate like rats.

Funny enough, if the nation calls for census tomorrow, it 'll be politicized again and we start hearing astronomical figures.

If a nation can't be sincere to get basic things as population census right, how can there be development & good governance?

Re: 195 Countries Of The World And Their Population (see Nigeria At #7) by Horus(m): 4:57pm On Mar 11, 2017

Look at the following numbers below:

1 - Population density (people per sq. km) in Nigeria was last measured at 200.05 in 2015

2 - Population density (people per sq. km) in the Netherlands was last measured at 488

Now even when the Netherlands is the most densely populated country of the European Union and one of the mostly densely populated countries in the world they are still complaining of low births rate.

Yes Nigeria is more populated than the Netherlands but there is less people per sq. km in Nigeria and a higher rate of child mortality.
You should look more at the population density not the global numbers.

Africa and Nigeria are Not overpopulated. Africa has the lowest population density on the planet. In 1995, population density were 6 people per square mile in Botswana to 133 in Ethiopia. This is not much compared to the Netherlands, which has 488 people per square mile. So Africa has the lowest population density in the world and contrary to popular belief, Africa is actually underpopulated.

There are fear mongers in europe who want to reduce the black population on the planet, so they will use words like "population time bomb" when they talk about African countries to create fear in your mind and to make you believe that we blacks are a "problem" but when you look a the stats of the density of populations you see a different picture.

If the population density (people per sq. km) in the Netherlands is more than the double of Nigeria why nobody talk about "population time bomb" in the Netherlands?. The answer is simple; it is because they are whites.

Did you notice that they only use the term "population time bomb" when dealing with non-whites?
