NSCDC is a paramilitary organization which states as The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps. It gets its official status by the Law Act N 2 of 2003 and 2007.

The Nigeria Civil Defence Corps was created during the Obasanjo regime. The main purpose of this corps is to provide security measures from attacks, disasters, and threats against the citizens of Nigeria.

Just like other members of Nigerian military forces, they have right to use fire weapon. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has ranks similar to Nigerian Army and Police force. The Nigerian Civil Defence also limited to chains of command.

According to NSCDC structure, the highest rank is the Commandant General, and the lowest is the Assistant Cadet. They too have non-commissioned and commissioned officers. Similar to the military structure,Nigeria Security and Civil Defence has the Superintendent Cadre and Cadre.

The NSDC new salary structure constructs on the level of the ranking of the individual officer. The salary is also given according to the personal certificate. If the officer is a graduate, then he/she will be placed at Level 8. If you are an HND holder, then you will be placed at Level 7. If you are a medical doctor, then you will be placed at level 12. Lawyers will be placed at level 9. Master`s Degree holders will be placed at level 9.

According to Federal Civil service commission salary structure, an officer at Level 8 step 1 would be paid up to 121 000 Naira per month. This individual belongs to the Assistant Superintendent cadre. An officer at Level 7 Inspectorate Cadre will be paid about 69 000 Naira per month.

The Nigeria Civil Defence Corps hierarchical structure is listed below from the lowest rank to the highest rank.
• The Lowest Cadre in Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps is the Assistant Cadre from Level 3 to 5.

• Inspectorate Cadre from Level 6 to 12.

• Assistant Superintendent Cadre II is on Level 8.

• Assistant Superintendent Cadre I is on Level 9.

• Deputy Superintendent Cadre is on Level 10.

• Superintendent Cadre is on Level 11.

• Chief Superintendent Cadre is on Level 12.

• Assistant Commander is on Level 13.

• Deputy Commander is on Level 14.

• Chief Commander is on Level 15.

• Assistant Commandant General is on Level 16.

• Deputy Commandant General is on Level 17

• Commandant General is on Level 18.
