Barely one month after Hon. Emmanuel Ukoete a member of the House of Representatives, elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from Akwa Ibom State, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), another member of the House from Benue State, Hon. Saleh Hassan Anthony has also defected from the PDP to the ruling APC.

With the new defection the APC members in the House stands at 226 while PDP members reduced to 124.

Hassan’s defection was announced at the floor of the plenary, by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

He cited division in the PDP as his reason for leaving the PDP.

But the Chairman of the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges, Hon. Ossai Nicholas Ossai raised a point of order, urging the speaker to declare Mr. Hassan’s seat vacant.

“The court of Appeal has on 17th February declared Modu Sheriff the authentic Chairman of the PDP, therefore there is no faction in the PDP,” Ossai said

Dogara however ruled Ossai out of order, as he said a copy of the court of appeal judgement should be produced at the plenary.
