Peter Obi to FG: Release Nnamdi Kanu, others now, says ‘force not solution to agitation’
By Chidi Roberts - March 23, 2017 0

Immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has called for the release of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and other detained Biafra activists.
Obi, while fielding questions from newsmen in Enugu on Thursday, emphasised that the use of force is not the solution to the Biafra agitation as such agitations are best resolved through dialogue.
“I wish to appeal to the Federal Government to change its hardline posture on this issue and yield to the persistent clamour for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra activists so as to douse the tension in the country, especially in the South-East and South-South geo-political zones. The Federal Government should engage them in dialogue. Every agitation in the world is resolved through dialogue and not by means of force,” Obi said.
The former governor recalled that he was among the first to advocate a political solution to the renewed Biafra agitation and expressed disappointment that the advice was yet to be heeded. “This has been my consistent position, and I remember making the same point when I spoke at an event organised in Enugu in February 2016 by the Igbo Youth Movement,” he said.
He noted that while the Federal Government may have reservations about the Biafra agitation, it should realise and acknowledge that the agitators, like other citizens, have their fundamental rights of freedom of expression and assembly guaranteed by the Nigerian Constitution. “To the best of my knowledge, the agitation for Biafra is not violent and does not violate either the Nigerian Constitution or international laws. I, therefore, condemn the use of force against the agitators,” he said.
Obi noted that Nnamdi Kanu and others have been granted bails in the past by courts of competent jurisdiction. He said it was a matter of regret that the Federal Government failed to use those judicial windows to free the detainees. “The fact that they had been granted bails that were not obeyed makes it even more pertinent to set them free now. We are in a democratic regime and it is important that the rule of law should be obeyed no matter whose case is involved,” he said.
The former governor advocated the restructuring of Nigeria, saying that it remains the only panacea to the various agitations and deep-seated anger that has consistently stoked tension and prevented Nigeria from moving forward.

Buhari is filled with hatred for a certain group of Nigerians.

Buhari is not going to release Nnamdi Kanu even if the courts order it. I am happy he has continued to hold Kanu because it has truly exposed the true nature of Buhari to everyone.

Buhari will not stop until he kills everyone from a certain 5% ethnic group or he will completely ruin Nigeria by his misplaced hatred.

Nnamadi Kanu must exceed Nelson Mandela`s years in prison to become a renowned freedom fighter.

He has only spent 2years and y`all already calling for his release when he still has an average of 25+years to go.

And if found guilty by the court of law within that duration, y`all know he probably be hung or face firing squad.\

Let Kanu be in Kuje prison and face his destiny. He will be fine inside.

He will end up saying the same words Nelson Mandela said in "Long walk to freedom"

For every action one takes, there are consequences. Kanu should have known that inciting one part of the country against other regions through hate speech pushed the border of freedom of speech into treason. And for him to threatened to burn Nig down to the ground calling it a zoo is Treason of the highest order and no govt in the world treats such with levity.
Enough of sensationalising the issue, let Kanu face what he started

What I've just noticed is that the FG is making the man, Nnamidi Kanu more popular unknowingly by refusing his bail condition as set out by court!

Are the 5% filled with love for Buhari ? Where is the fairness in your assertion ? Why must Buhari be forced to love the 5%. ? 5% or Buhari we all have the right to love whoever we chose. Buhari does not owe 5% ethic group any love. Let them show love before love in turn is shown to them. To hell with them if they have no love to give yet believe they are entitled to being loved.

The FG was not wise, they gave him publicity through their actions... and even increasing that by their ongoing actions..

-Did they ever think an igbo man would go to war, after seeing the effects of war?
- If their is a referandum today, more and most igbos would opt to stay within..

The FG only failed and allowed it gain momentum through it's manner of approach.

That is the exact reason why they want out. It beats me how you can hate someone and still force them to continue in a relationship with you. It doesn't make sense.

Because he's the father of the nation.

As a father you show love to all your children whether they're doing well or not. Stubborn or not you show them love. That is also known as Emotional intelligence and that's what Buhari lacks. AEvery good leader in history has Emotional Intelligence.

Meanwhile you forgotten that Buhari started showing the Igbos hatred immediately he was sworn in as shown in that interview in USA where he divided Nigeria into 97% and 5%.

No matter the hatred for Igbos, Igboman still thrives. To God be the glory.
