I wonder the type of home training the OP is hoping to pass on to his children. He's one of those unenlightened clowns who had defective upbringing and give Ndigbo a bad name. 6 Likes |

I see nothing wrong with that. She's also your mother. Don't you salute your mother after eating? |

Well saying thank ma sounds ridiculous. Op greet her in your language. It's more appealing and show sign of respect. Where I come from if everyone in that room is older than you, you will greet all be it you are the owner of the home. Of na 10 elders dey present at that time, you will greet all. |

Op, do you also ignore your mother after eating or are you just being disrespectful because it is the mother of your " servant" aka wife? You don't respect and honor your wife cos if you do the said respect would've been extended to her mum too. Egotistical buffoon. Making a mountain out of a little hill. Imagine the resentment in your post. 6 Likes |

alfredo4u: Yes! It is proper..in fact over proper dey worry am... Cos she's ur Mother Inlaw and u won't accord some respect to her.. .. Hell No! Respect is a reciprocal. Whether she was the one that prepared the meal or not, u owe her that. Sometimes, saying thank you doesn't necessarily means the person cooked the meal, it's a culture and sign of respect. Guy u have to see her as ur own biological Mum. Thanks. 8 Likes |

alfredo4u:It is called courtesy. You are damn wrong even if na you be provider. Make sure you take the correction. These basic tenets are learnt from our families, if you didn't learn this, then there may be other things you still don't know. Learn from your wife, she comes from a structured home. You are lucky to have her. 8 Likes |

Op, your wife has little or no conflict management skill, which should be the number one characteristic every married woman should be associated with. She has forced you to open a thread this early morning because she couldn't manage a minute situation. It's situations as these that result to biases against in-laws cos I see no reason why the wife's mother should demand to be acknowledged after every meal as though its her house. Common sense should inform her that its not worth causing a rift between her daughter and husband. Op, It's also a good thing that this situation came into play because its evident from this that your wife puts her now extended family ahead of her immediate family cos she would never take your side or defend u if anything comes up. 1 Like |

If your MIL prepared the meal you could always appreciate her effort. However if your wife did, it doesn't make sense. Thanking her for what? I could only eulogize my wife for preparing a sumptuous meal after devouring it in the face of my MIL....Doing that would definitely make my MIL happy. This is not about ego. It is called TAKING CHARGE! 3 Likes |
