The NIGERIAN ENLIGHTENMENT:-

Nobody needs to be a Prophet today to tell you that we as Nigerians are Suffering, but yet we are still Smiling... *Fela comes to mind*

Nigeria is a multi-lingual, multi-ethnic and a very religious country.

"Being a Nigerian is abysmally Frustrating and unbelievably Exciting" - *China Achebe*

There are many things to be proud of in Nigeria, but there are far greater things to be *irritated* about also,if we weigh these two things together against themselves,we would notice a sharp deviation stating that Nigeria is basically a *failed State*.

I am not here to talk about how Nigeria is a failed State, but to identify how it became a failed State, and the way forward.

Firstly, Nigeria's multi-ethnic feature has proved to rather be a disadvantage than to be an advantage. We have Igbos loathing Yorubas, Yorubas loathing Igbos , Hausa's loathing Igbos, Igala loathing Ebira, Nupes loathing Igala .
Let us face the pure fact,we hate ourselves in Nigeria, this contraption of nested hate created by the British will never end, unless we make an action.
It is to be noted that Nigeria is the only country that Britain forcefully amalgamated different people with different background that still exists till today.
Examples: The British India Splits into 3 countries: India,Pakistan and Bangladesh , The British Malaya Splits into Malaysia and Singapore etc...
Nigeria is the remaining country standing, although it's own splitting is near, and Inevitable.

All these are stories for another day, lets get down to what we are here for, *the Enlightenment*:

===> Firstly, Nigeria is an over-religious country, with so much religious leaders around and so many upcoming... The religion industry in Nigeria is a Billion dollar Industry. Little wonder why among the top 10 richest religious leaders in the world,5 are Nigerians.
This is also an Industry where these so called religious leaders are untouchable, and their followers seem to follow their words hook line and sinker.
These religious leaders have proven year in year out to be only concerned about their pockets, they preach and they don't practice, they Incite, they dive into politics, they have the support of their *brothers in arms* the politicians.
The politicians use the advantage of the sway the religious leaders have over their followers to campaign and gain favours.
But have we all reflected,we give these people our all, just for nothing. How have these people impacted the society positively, how have these people sensitised / enlightened their followers.
You guessed it right? They don't need to do that, because they will loose followers, and that indicates only one thing & *BAD BUSINESS*

Religion has done more harm to Nigeria than good. We are all aggressive/ full of bigotry when it comes to the case of religion, but what has this *hypothesis* really done to help us as a country.
The answer? Nothing.
Religion is a social construct used to keep the masses in check, nothing more, and you guessed it right- it's man made.

Nigerians are all full of religious bigotry,we vote for a particular candidate during elections because they are from the same religion as us, forgetting the right man for the job. We give out favours to people because they have the same faith as we do,forgetting that we are all *Humans* .
We persecute someone who is not in the same religion as us,forgetting that everybody has a right to his/her own "delusions".
Oh Backward Nigeria,i weep for You.
The case is worse up North where religion is in total control of a greater part of the population, where the deviation between the rich and the poor is large.
Fellow Nigerians,we need to be Enlightened, and dump this medieval concept/social construct called religion, and embrace Knowledge. Europe has done that,America has done that,China has done that, and they are moving forward pretty good. What is stopping us from also doing so?
Religion is a *SCAM*,the earlier we realise this, the better.

Secondly is the issue of obsolete traditions.
We as a Country have a lot of Traditional rulers(Oba's,Obis,Emirs) who are on the government payroll of the government, feeding on the tax money of poor Nigerians.
These people have little to no contribution to the society.

We agree that historically, the seat of stool used to be the absolute authorities in their respective lands, but this is 2017,and Nigeria is a Democracy(literarily) and the authority lies in the Executive/Legislative arms of government.
Why should we celebrate Oba's ,Obi's, Emir's when they do add anything to us as a Country?

Annoyingly is that some of these seats were created post-independence Nigeria,so what Historical value do those ones hold.
They even go as far as calling themselves 1st class Kings,2nd class Kings ...bla bla bla.
The latest of these happened in Lagos State where Ambode approved of the coronation of the first Alakesan of Akesan.
We don't need all those in 2017,all those Kingdoms have their mark in History, and we will remember them by writing books about them.

Nigerians we need to fight against every thing that want us to remain backwards,we need a REVOLUTION ,our leaders need to be aware of the consequences of their actions,we all need to be Enlightened,we all need to seek Knowledge.

I will drop my pen at this point. Till next time.
