Pls, what is the difference between talking and communication in relationships

Talking is a form of communication...

I can hear someone talking but I won't necessarily be listening. Talking does not necessarily require a response.Communication is an art a skill many do not possess. Anyone can talk but it's not everyone that has the ability to engage an audience. Communication is an exchange of information that does require a response. When communicanting you purvey a point ,it's received and hopefully understood.

There's no difference between talking and communication in relationships. It is dependent on what the person implied.

Talking: an exchange of ideas via conversation, exchange thoughts; convey ideas, divulge confidential information or secrets

Communication: the activity of conveying information between people or groups.

From your question I can deduce that you're referring to just general discussions between you and your partner, some funny discussions or sometimes irrelevant issues.


Meanwhile in communication, there's expectations on your partner to discuss plans, visions and aspirations relating to the both of you.

one has to do with understanding the other not so much

The understanding makes the difference.

If you talk and I don't understand what you've said or I arrive at a different interpretation, then there has been no communication. The sender and the receiver need to have shared understanding for communication to take place.


Simply put. You talk whenever you open your mouth to say something but when what you have said is received and interpreted/understood just the way you want it, you have communicated.

Talking is a form of communication which d msg must be understood by both.... In most relationship's these days, u will only find them talking whereas communication is d key without which relationship falls flat. Communicate more than just talking/blabbing

Talking is being verbally untarciturnic but communication is the transfer of thought, knowledge and information in a situation where there's one speaker and one listener...the speaker is the encoder why the listener is the decoder, and as in as much as the decoder(listener) is able to understand or decode what the encoder(speaker) is saying, then the effective communication in english studies has taken place.

That's like asking if there's a difference between chewing and eating.....
