One would have expected dem to slash d high cost of governance starting from d executive and den d Senate would b forced to follow suit. Billions in so many state house nonsense.. What happens wen d 29 musketeers eventually submit a report on how any salary is not sustainable at d moment? Becos we know wateva report dey com out with, dis govt isn't increasing salary.. I see dem proposing a salary increase by next year to b used as campaign promise and point... |

Our lawmakers in Nigeria are the highest paid in the world and they earn perhaps 20 times or more what the president of the U.S. is earning. These only justify the allusions in several quarters that the Nigerian democracy may after all be Achilles heel of the economy and make a mess of whatever economic blueprint of the government. Nigeria’s political restructure is overdue for restructuring, statistics shows that political office-holders in the country, who constitute less than one per cent of the country’s population, appropriate over 40 per cent of the nation’s public resources. By the way, we are supposed to have wages and productivity commissions. What do they see as their mandate? It is certainly not good and progressive for government to discuss wage increases only after the unions have started agitating. It is of utmost importance to progressively effect wage increases that would guarantee that the quality of life of the generality of its workers is sustained. |

I'm not against the increase in the minimum wage. What aches my heart is the services delivered by public servants. 90% of public servants don't want to add value proportionate to their salaries! They resume when they feel like, take breaks when they feel like, close when they feel like, absent without permission, demand gratification for what they're paid to do... the list of the atrocity they commit is endless. Some are not even competent in what they do! It's just money! Money!! Money!!! No one talks about adding value to the public sector! My submission, In as much as I support minimum wage increment, I would suggest the FG set up a 58 man(2*29) panel to set up modalities on a quality check on public service delivery! 2 Likes |

When it comes to talking, Nigerian politicians move at the speed of light, but bring it down to implementation, you'll be amazed at the snail movement. Besides, with the current situation of things, the proposed wage will solve just an inch of the problem, unless they intend to get serious with the price control policy (which is still on hibernation the last time I checked) |

When salaries are increased, every sector of the economy will be positively rejuvenated. The market women, traders, industrialists, and all manufacturers will be positively touched. This is why advanced countries always pay higher wages for workers unlike African countries who think they are doing them a favor by adding to their salaries. We need to change our mentality. |
