Your postulation is rather misleading.

In societies such as the "universal" catholic church and indeed other large sects and human communities and groupings the head of the organisation does not appoint the Bishop or other leaders by divine guidance as are wont to believe but rather through recommendations that may or not be wholesome. These appointments are usually a direct reflection of serious manipulationsand scheming which may come in the form of lobbying, politiking, bribery and even blackmail.

The Ahiara episcopal debacle has haunted the catholic church for not a few years now. Bishop Okpaleke was foisted on the people of Ahiara by His eminence, Arinze who is a first class prince of the church and whose prodigies/prebends have benefitted from his share of the universal largesse as distributed by the oapacy to its faithful through its hierachy.

It was an unfair and very disparaging eventuality.

Mbaise is one of the most populous catholic domains in Nigeria. They deserve to have their own Bishop especially considering the their contribution to the church and its evolution. With over 600 priests, surely there has to be one qualified or favored for that position.

This grandstanding by Arinze and his cohorts is to the detriment of the church in Ahiara. Howrver the church in its characteristic "wisdom" will adopt a no victor no vanquished approach. Comoromises will be reached and the matter will die with no loss of face to Ahiara or Okpaleke or his mentor Arinze.
You are not so correct. The priests has a bow of complete obedience to the Catholic Church and the Holy Father. Now whatever might be the case, they have utterly scandalized the people of God by refuting the authority of the Pope. It is an injury to the church.

A very big Injury to the church, and she indeed bleeds. The Pope has given his Judgement, Let all Ahiara priests and religious abide by it, else that diocese will be suppressed.

There is nothing like complete obedience to whoever and whatever.

You may listen to the formal interchange that takes place during the ritual of a sacerdotal ordination but do note that what obtains un practice is poles apart. They had need ro refute the authority of leader who is only briefed of the goings on by his appointees and this will be very lopsided.

The people of God cannot be scandalized by this because history us replete with this kind of activity. Above all the church is undergoing a reformation that is defitely not going the way the church handlers want it but they have no choice in the matter as the Mills of God grind slowly but exceedingly fine.

Our catholic church has reached a stage where it reforms in the interest of the comon good or it dies a slow and painful implosion.

You know absolutely nothing about the teachings of the church. Do not argue out of ignorance. Total obedience to the Pope has been a long standing doctrine of the church and can never change. You can't reject the chief Shepherd sent to your diocese for any reason whatsoever. This incident speaks volumes about what most of us Christians practice.

Rubbish, setting a very bad precedence, very soon evry diocese will start doing same, the archdiocese of Benin has an Igbo archbishop..... Archbishop Augustine Akubueze, even as the binis have a good number of qualified priests to hold that position, he was ordained and nobody cried or protested. Y must Igbo own b different, tht because u produce high number of priests doesn't mean u own d church, if u dnt want a bishop ordained by d pope, u form or own church, ur not bigger than d church

Believe me, I already heard of another diocese holding a meeting of their religious to reject in advance the bishop being rumored to be prepared for them, for same reason as Ahiara. This precedence is horrible, in the church where you're expected to trust that God is in charge. I am glad the Pope stated it clearly that this is not tribalism when he said "I think that, in this case, we are not dealing with tribalism, but with an attempted taking of the vineyard of the Lord." Now the Pope has taking a stand, let them go and do what he said first, he may be kind enough to send a different Bishop, but Ahiara will not produce an indigenous bishop in the nearest future this way.

I'm just amazed by what has been coming out of Ahiara. It's now so bad that the secular world is now an example to the Church. The present Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe university Awka; in Anambra state, Prof. Ahaneku, is from Mbaise in Imo State. Yet Bishop Okpaleke from Awka cannot be Bishop in the Mbaise diocese of Ahiara. It's just so appalling.

The truth is that in every mbaise family they have a priest or reverend father so it's not acceptable by them to bring a non mbaise because they have in surplus that is to say they want one of their own instead of an outsider.
