Marriage. . . Why Do It? by ElRazur: 10:04am On Jan 23, 2010
Lately, I have been wondering the need for a marriage. While I am not trying to ask if marraige is necessary, I am more or less asking the real reasons people go for it. Yeah there are things like personal choice, been happy etc. But are there any other reasons as to why people take the jump? I am of the belief that it is more or less down to us trying to do what is accepted as the norm, or have been instilled into us. Thoughts?

just to do what society seems as a duty, thats all

deep down, most people, given the benefit of hindsight, would prefer to have never been married

That is the line I'm leaning towards to be honest, but I am sure a lot of people will disagree with you and me.

they ALWAYS do. the word 'irresponsible' comes to mind.

Nigerians believe that only married people are responsible.A laughable assertion,if you ask me. 99% of the problems pulling Nigeria down are caused by people IN marriage.

How responsible is that? undecided

i think along the line it will be good to have a companion you grew old with
you know someone that will look at you when u are old and still see the beauty you had when you were young

its better to have someone than to be a lonely old man or woman
just my point of view

Exactly, and that just goes to show a "learned behaviour" or at least something ingrained into us.

Personally, Ithink marriage is nothing but a piece of paper. grin

But you can have that without getting married. Go and look up on the founder of playboy [Ithink]. He's got 3 girlfriends who all live in his house, phucks them all and he is about 70 or something. I dunno about you, but when I see him on tv, he sure do look happy. grin

It's a difficult question to answer if you're not married or engaged.  Why not find out from those who are married or engaged why they intend to/got married?

Incidentally, there are other threads in existence on the subject.

Reason for marriage are endless. If you don't see any particular reason to get married as of now, then dont. When you get to that level, nobody will tell you twice to marry your chic.
