For their own good they better accept Omoluabi. Omoluabi will bring higher sales, and higher profit.
Nigeria's private sector are allegic to turnover profit. they want to make profit inflating prices artificially or cheating folks through weight and measures.

Nothing stops you from investigating the issue.

The truth is that the new measuring scale can not be tampered with, unlike the conventional one they were using.

That's their grouse.

Your opinion is very wrong.

A cardinal duty of the government is to standardize the weights and measures. This has been achieved in parts western Europe for instance, almost 1000 years ago (under Alfred the Great in Britain). That we are still attempting to achieve this in 2017 to much opposition, says very much about our backwardness.

Very ignorant comment. It is the duty of the government to ensure that sellers use standard measuring scales to sell to citizen. Even at the federal level, there is a full department (weight and measures) under ministry of trade and investment that goes around to monitor and enforce standard measuring scales for produce.

Now ogbeni government is imposing scales to the poor traders. Well I will say it here that this can't work. I watch it on AIT yesterday and I was shaking my head on the enforcement. He ought to do it with more awareness and enlightenment not enforcing your law to people. Is this not how he imposed one of commissioners to clinched the ticket of Osun west constituency by election. Well it is the electorates that will determine the outcome of the election not by rigging.

It is the responsibility of the government to ensure an enabling market environment.
If the are not comfortable with it, they can go home and sit.
Doing business is not a right, it's a privilege.

Well I don't know the pulse of the society or those living in osun state towards this issue but from the outside view of ppl this will look as less important issue
A reasonable consumer will definitely see this issue of scale as something beneficial to them. The traders find it very difficult to accept because they are used to exploiting and cheating the consumers. Therefore, it's the responsibility of a reasonable government to regulate the prices of various goods so as to favour the masses.

Besides, you might sometimes want to ask why they didn't protest against hikes in prices of goods even as regard the ones dollar hasn't affected so much.

you got it very wrong, even the measurement they are currently using now was introduced by Government.

A section of women at Igbona Market in Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun state, on Thursday, staged a peaceful demonstration to protest against the ultimatum given by the Osun state government over the use of weighing scale known as ‘Osuwon Omoluabi’.

The less than 100 women under the aegis of Igbona Market Women Petty Traders Association, closed their shops and stormed the Government Secretariat, Abere armed with their measuring bowls.

Recall that in a bit to standardize trade activities in the state, the state government of Osun had introduced weighing scale and encouraged all market in the state to align with this policy.

The policy which was introduced about a year ago with the support of various market leaders across the state when operational, will end the imbalance in the measurement of goods in the markets.

Though the government through representative of market associations had agreed to allow timeline frame of one year for the policy to take effect on their members, the market women had pleaded with government to extend the enforcement. The government had subsidized the scaling for the market women, a development that caused the government to bear the larger burden. Addressing the protesters, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce, Hon. Simeon Olufemi Popoola, noted that the government will look into the pleadings of the traders. Nigeria is the only country amongst its neighbours without standardized measuring scales for its trading activities.

Those traders have unions and the price is the same everywhere.

If things are costly in the market, who do you mindlessly blame?

Now, the govt is takin charge of things because most Nigerians are too exploitative and you're still complaining

The government instigated a great idea to regulate an important sales implement, and some market women are taking to the street for no reason to fight against it, why wouldn't they just comply? after they have been given a long period of grace to get the scale still the prices of the implement were subsidised to an affordable amount they still refuse to get it.

I feel the market women ought to have met with their different union to get all of their disagreement or issues to the government in an organised manner instead of taking to the street to protest.

The governor has taken it upon himself to make sure he regulates the prices of good that require the weigh in question for consumers benefit.

The government is being responsible to reduce chap practices by some traders who usually shortchanged buyers through their measurement bowls. It is hard for typical Nigerian to embrace change particularly when it will benefit majority rather than few individuals.

Not paying salaries shouldn't encourage traders ripping people off.Cheating is wrong whether from the government or the market women. They should use the right measuring scales, and the government trying to ensure that it happens isn't a bad idea.

wat are u saying? how did u know d new scale isn't a way 2 cheat masses in d name of policy?

u mean it's right for a state government dat has failed in providing basic amenities, most importantly payment of salaries (despite FG bail out fund), should be allowed 2 make policies dat wont benefit d masses?

For those who care to know, there is more to this protest than meet the eye. The Osuwon Omoluabi was first introduced in 2014 and 30 LG Iyalojas lauded the initiative but I am surprise now why some members of the trader unions would thronged to the street to protest what they initially supported. Hence, Osun West Senatorial election is fast approaching and politicians will do anything possible to instigate for political gain. Just imagine why not protest last year or weeks ago?

Aregbesola is so idle and empty upstairs that he is introducing a measuring scale for market women. Don't Osun have LGA or markets now fall under the purview of state government.

This is an unitiative of the ministry of Agriculture and Food Security which is part of the Osun State govt .
Its obvious you don't know how govt operates You have to be more civil and objective in your comments , this is is not a Biafra thread where you can throw caution to the wind and start imsulting your elders
