Breaking News-cabinet Declares Yar’adua Fit To Continue In Office by ochukoccna: 7:59pm On Jan 27, 2010
The Executive Council of the Federation today said that President Umaru Yar’Adua is not incapable of discharging his office.

But the Senate has directed Yar’Adua to transmit a letter to the National Assembly that he had proceeded on vacation.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Dan Abutu, on Friday gave the council 14 days to pass a resolution to determine the state of health of ailing President Umaru Yar‘Adua in line with Section 144 of the 1999 Constitution.

The President has been receiving treatment for a heart condition in a Saudi hospital for over 60 days.

Rising from a meeting today, however, the Executive Council, through the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, said that Yar’Adua was fit to continue in office, insisting that a medical treatment outside the country did not constitute incapacity.

The Senate during its session today directed the President to forward a letter to the National Assembly that he had proceeded on vacation in line with the Section 144 of the Constitution.

As I said and many other analysts had pointed out prior to this sick joke, CAN U SACK YOUR BOSS IN AFRICA?
Thank God these jokers in FEC lived up to what we expected from them before. In no way are we shocked by this resolution of theirs. Thanks to the FEC for accelerating Abuja,9ja on the path toward the road to Mogadishu, Somalia i.e another failed state.
We are eternally grateful.

These FEC people are jokers. Listen to our Attorney General/Atonije [person who sets out to deliberately deceive other people] speaking

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Michael Aondoakaa, announced the council’s resolution at a news briefing after the FEC meeting that lasted about four hours in the Council Chambers of the State House. Aondoakaa was silent on the date of Yar’Adua’s return from Saudi Arabia where he is being treated at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Jeddah. Asked if the council consulted medical experts before arriving at the decision that Yar’Adua was fit enough to continue in office, the minister replied “We followed the constitution.” However, when he was asked to name the medical experts consulted by the FEC, he refused, saying the constitution did not require such a disclosure. He said, “The constitution did not make that provision, go and read the constitution. “The issue of medical team comes after the decision is made whether or not the President is incapacitated. So, I cannot bend the constitution.”

Question is how did they arrive @ this conclusion of Yaradua been well without making known to us what the medical experts said?

According to him, even if the President had written to the National Assembly to hand over to the vice-president on a temporary basis, the vice-president would not have to be inaugurated. Aondoakaa said the issue of acting President had security implications.
Then why is it in the constitution that a president has to hand over if it has security implications. Is the Atonije telling us that a sitting VP [Jonathan in this case] is not privy to security meetings concerning the country?

However, journalists picked holes in Aondoakaa’s comparison of the current situation in Nigeria with what had happened in the US. Aondoakaa was asked to explain why an American President would hand over power, even for a few hours, while in the Nigerian situation, the President had been away from office for 65 days and had not done the same. But the minister was evasive in his response

Thank God for a vibrant press that is free to an extent, yet Nigerians must continue to demand the right things be done. God forbid the military to come back because what's the use of having a constitution that is not  been respected.
Even though the Senate is acting late, kudos for asking Yaradua to do the right thing by transmiting a letter as noted in the constitution.

Pat Utomi's take on the issue

[size=13pt]Amazingly the Federal Executive Council comprising of people who have revealed both on the BBC and at the senate that they have not spoken to the president since he left Nigeria in November, 2009, have passed a resolution that he is not incapacitated. Now how can Nigeria make progress when our executive council can not place national interest above self interest?

nigerians have been asking many correct questions to the wrong persons.
where is the man who imposed yar adua on us?
we shld be asking him what next?
is he tired of imposing ppl on us or does he have more presidential candidates to impose?
the earlier nigerians look up to obasanjo for answers to unanswered questions, the earlier solutions on the where about of our president are provided.
our refusial to accord obsanjo his heart desire of third term is what nigeria and nigerians are suffering till date.
such big idiot who has exposed the lives of over 150 million nigerians to danger just for his inordniate ambition to be a life president deserves nothing but the visit of hangs men.

fit for what? They said we elected them and now we are calling for impeachment, so let them respect our voice if they really want to prove that they obey people's voice.

Let me believe that the dead man is fit,but I want him to prove it by appearing on TV for Nigerians don't know what their president looks like anymore. He can go a step futher by getting on board an air ambulance and show his face in Aso Rock without further delay. All these deceit in Nigeria are bringing us closer to that inevitable chaos and bloody intervention that these wicked men are asking for. When bodies of the so called big men litter the streets, then they will come back to their senses.

If you have a man like Aondoakaa as your Attorney General, there is no hope for a better future.
