They should give these oil refining entrepreneurs licences to operate modular refineries rather than destroy their investments. In a country were no major refineries are working, why destroy the minor ones?

You talk like you have a cranium filled with sawdust!
What is illegal should never be made legal, simples!!

Some very silly set of people are saying illegal refinery operators should be left alone and licensed .

Do you think those drums they use to "cook" crude oil are refineries......What those people operate are not refineries, they are more like distilleries.

What they do is to steal crude oil and then distill it to mostly petrol and deisel in its CRUDEST form.
If they are licensed, you will buy bad diesel, have a knocked engined and then start insulting government, they are the reason why you have kerosene that explodes because it wasnt degassed .

And again, these people can never be profitable without stolen crude because they only get less than 30% of the supposed crude oil yield....even Dangote refinery will not survive with such extraction rate.....so licensing them is encouraging them to steal crude, that's why they are illegal.

They are also a danger to the environment as they can't afford standard waste and environmental management procedures.

If we license them, we can as well license illegal universities, illegal drug production centers, illegal food and beverage factories, illegal smugglers.

When Nigerians start buying bad diesel and getting knocked engines or seeing gas stations and kegs explode due to bad kerosene, they will be the one to be complaining and be shouting Buhari, no wonder this nation does not progress.

Does saying they should operate modular refineries......it seems they don't know what modular refineries are.....I advice them to go do some research or keep quiet.

Why go illegal
Just write a proposal for the FG to start ur own modular refinery let nigerians know about it. If the govt then says no we will know which side the fg is on

if not that we have useless leaders in this country, we would have gone far technologically. someone claims he has built a refinery for refining crude oil, instead of veryfying his claims, you send some thugs called security men to destroy the refinery, further destroying the environment. everybreakthrough was started in a very crude manner. why not give this people a chance and ensure they are monitored.

Are those pieces of rubbish refineries.....do you even know what is a modular refinery
Those 'pieces of rubbish' as you call them, are the only functional refineries in Nigeria. So, again I ask: why destroy the works of people who are doing very well what government has been failing consistently at?

If you licenced and taxed these dudes, they would improve their technology, and the price of fuel and kerosene would go way down. But tribalism and corruption have eaten so deep into the fabric of this country that we no longer recognize our right from our left.

If it were to be the US, these guys would have been given loans to expand by the Bank of Industry. But I guess this is not the US afterall.

Join the Zikist Movement (Zikistmovement.com). There is still hope for this country. Hope is the last thing that dies. We must keep believing, there is no other choice.

They mine illegally because those who should legalize them have refused to do so. Sadly, those who say they are a problem have refused to give us a viable solution. And the masses keep suffering, and growing old and dieing off without ever knowing what it means to enjoy this life.

I shake my head for this country. This thread was even posted to the crime section! See how government has illegalized what should be a legitimate business. The Army can even come out to boast about this! Hmm.

Tribalism has so much blinded you.

These people can never bring down price of fuel and kerosene.....the only reason they seem to sell cheap now is because they steal the crude oil (free crude oil).....if they are made to buy crude oil no one will be in that illegal refining business ( crude oil cooking business rather) because it won't be profitable, they survive solely on stolen crude........when you extract less than 30% of crude oil, even a conventional refinery won't make profit (find out what a conventional refinery is).

supporting them means supporting crude oil theft, pipe vandalism.
