The Ibo's have been playing the catch up game and they will keep doing that till eternity. Whatever the Yoruba's dumped they pick it up. Many tribes were into trading centuries before the Ibo's. By the time they wake up to tap the gains and impact of ICT , the Yoruba's will be running space tech programs.
I'm interested in those people pre-colonial era history!,if truely they are that enterprising they should have at least a city as big as kano and Ibadan pre colonial era and more advanced than other tribes due to cultural exchange with their trading partners!

Yorubas have been making use of guns bought from the Portuguese as far back as late 17th century. Then those people should stop thinking business spirit is their monopoly.I could remember yoruba proverb like "ise re omo alaseje, owo re,omo asela",meaning "you work(under people or as civil servant) only to survive but you do business to become rich"

BREAKING: Andela Raises $40m From CRE VC, DBL, Salesforce, TLcom, Others In Series C Round

LAGOS, October 10, 2017 — Andela, the company that builds high-performing engineering teams with Africa’s most talented software developers, today announced that the company has secured $40M in Series C funding. The investment was led by pan-African venture firm CRE Venture Capital with participation from DBL Partners, Amplo, Salesforce Ventures, and Africa-focused TLcom Capital. Existing investors including Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, GV, and Spark Capital also participated. The round, which marks one of the largest investments ever led by an African venture firm into an Africa-based company, brings Andela’s total venture funding to just over $80M.

Andela was launched in 2014 to combat the global technical talent shortage by investing in Africa’s most talented software developers. With an estimated 1.3M software jobs unfilled in 2016 in the U.S. alone, it’s clear that the growth of today’s major technology ecosystems is inhibited by a severe lack of talent. To solve this, Andela invests in high potential pools of brainpower across the African continent to help more than 100 partner companies build distributed engineering teams. These partners range from industry leaders like Viacom and Mastercard Labs to high-growth technology companies such as Gusto and GitHub.

With offices in Lagos, Nigeria, Nairobi, Kenya, and Kampala, Uganda, Andela has hired 500 developers to date — the top 0.7% of more than 70,000 applicants from across the continent. Selected developers spend six months in a rigorous onboarding program before being matched with one of Andela’s partner companies as full-time engineering team members. Beyond recruiting elite development talent, Andela is catalyzing the growth of tech ecosystems across the continent by open-sourcing its content and partnering with organizations including Google, Pluralsight and Udacity to provide resources and mentorship to developers.

“Andela is investing in our continent’s future technology leaders, who are already playing a much-needed role in solving both African and global problems,” says Seni Sulyman, Country Director of Andela Nigeria. “With each new partnership, we are simultaneously proving to the global tech industry that brilliance is evenly distributed irrespective of gender, culture or nationality. As we unleash an entire generation of technologists, we will secure Africa’s role as an equal partner working alongside the rest of the world to advance human potential.”

Pule Taukobong, Founding Partner of CRE Venture Capital, adds: “At present, there is more capital to fund ideas globally than there are people to build them. Andela is providing a solution to this global talent dilemma while building a business case for one of Africa’s greatest assets: our people.”

Andela will use the capital to fuel its aggressive expansion plans: The company aims to launch offices in two additional African countries over the next year, doubling its developer base from 500 to 1,000. Alongside this round, Pule Taukobong of CRE, Julia Gillard, former Australian Prime Minister and Amplo Board Partner, and Omobola Johnson, Senior Partner at TLcom and former Minister of Communication Technology in Nigeria, will be joining Andela’s board.

Online real estate startup ToLet acquires Jumia House Nigeria to create PropertyPro.Ng

https://techcrunch.com/2017/11/10/online-real-estate-startup-tolet-acquires-jumia-house-nigeria-to-create-propertypro-ng/

African tech can produce surprises. One this week is a $1.2 million Series A startup buying part of a $1 billion company.

That’s what Lagos based property startup ToLet.com.ng has done, purchasing Jumia House Nigeria for an undisclosed amount. Jumia House is a subsidiary of the continent’s lone tech unicorn — Pan-African e-commerce giant Jumia.com.

ToLet and Jumia House Nigeria will merge platforms under the new name of PropertyPro.ng.

The acquisition was a result of ToLet’s strength in market and help from their lead investor, Malaysia based Frontier Digital Ventures, according to CEO and Co-Founder Fikayo Ogundipe.

“This came about from FDV―which has a strong real-estate classified portfolio across Africa―looking at which markets they were strong and where Rocket [Jumia’s lead investor] was weaker,” he told TechCrunch. “In Nigeria Jumia House was number three or number four in online listings. It didn’t make sense for Rocket to burn more capital in that position, so [FDV] approached them on the acquisition.

So how did ToLet finance the purchase? Without additional financing from lead investor FDV, according to Co-Founder Sulaiman Balogun. “The $1.2 million in funding we announced last year is the only round we’ve disclosed. We’ve raised enough capital to run through this deal and really fund the business and grow,” he said.

With the acquisition, ToLet is acquiring the entire Jumia House platform — staff, assets, and their listings and agent network. The new PropertyPro entity will combine ToLet’s 60,000 listings to Jumia House’s 22,000 to create the largest online real estate listings platform in Nigeria with 65 percent of the market, according to Balogun.

ToLet would not divulge annual revenue stats, but execs explained it makes money from agent subscription fees. ToLet’s legacy platform had 10,000 agents, of which 20 percent were charged.

“We have a long-term plan to charge a higher percentage on our the premium plan,” said ToLet CEO Ogundipe―noting agents receive more options under that plan.

ToLet’s new PropertyPro platform will not charge fees or commissions on listing sales, something some of its competitors do, according to Balogun. “We did that on our previous model, but stopped. That increased the number of agents on our platform and generated more revenue overall,” he said. ToLet’s current online listings are about 70 percent rentals and 30 percent sales.

Co-CEOs Balogun and Ogundipe said to expect updates on the integrated PorpertyPro platform. They have engineers developing new ease of search features for the site and plan to launch an android app in coming weeks.

A prime aim of the acquisition and new PropertyPro platform is to expand ToLet’s agent and listings reach across Nigeria and increase the number of sales listings, Balogun told TechCrunch.

As a market, Nigeria boasts the dual distinction of being Africa’s most populous nation and largest economy, valued at roughly half a trillion dollars. A small real-estate sector (circa 8 percent of the overall economy) and a high urbanization rate have created a housing deficit in the country. Furthermore, a nascent credit rating market in the Nigeria has fueled practices whereby landlords can require advance deposit of up to two years rent from tenants.

ToLet hopes its recent acquisition and upgraded PropertyPro platform can ease that.

“We believe creating more visibility of real estate listings and ease of connecting buyers and sellers online can solve some of these liquidity problems and bridge this gap between supply and demand,” said Co-Founder Sulaiman Balogun.

JKN Limited is a multi-services engineering company incorporated in 1962, and formerly known as "James Kilpatrick & Sons Limited". The company specializes in electrical, mechanical, telecommunications and infrastructural development services. It also offers training to electrical engineers and technicians, in its premises in Lagos in areas such as Electrical Control Panel Building, Electrical Installation Works and Maintenance, as well as Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning. Chief Dr. John Agboola Odeyemi, former Chairman of Ecobank and past President of Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (LCCI) is the founder of JKN Nigeria Limited.

Messrs JKN Nigeria Limited was the distribution network contractor whose firm contributed to the timely and efficient delivery of the Island Power (IPP) project, which powers over 230 street light installations, 40 court rooms, 8 operating theatres, a 153 chamber mortuary, 16 clinics/ centres which include 2 HIV/AIDS clinics, 2 emergency centres that harbor 3 fully equipped Lagos State emergency ambulances and a special babies unit.

This project from conception to its commissioning was undertaken in less than 18 months, making it the fastest ever executed Independent Power Project in Nigeria. The commissioning of the Island Power (IPP) project plant immediately led to the de-commissioning of 30 - diesel generating sets ranging between 100 - 1,000 KVA each, eliminated the inevitable pollution including the noise and carbon monoxide caused by those generators. The plant also has a vast cost saving component to the state government of 46% over project whole life cycle.

Messrs JKN Nigeria Limited's track record over the years has seen them executing projects in the power and telecommunications sector as well as public, commercial and hotel buildings. They have also executed projects for the military, government parastatals, public institutions, financial institutions, oil and gas, etc.

Before concluding, I will like to acknowledge the efforts and contributions of Island Power Limited, (an affiliate of the Negris Group in the realization of this project). I also express appreciation to the distribution network contractor, Messrs JKN Nigeria Limited and many others who contributed to the timely and efficient delivery of this project. It will be invidious for me to attempt to individually acknowledge all of them. They have all proven to be reliable partners towards the achievement of our common objective.

This project has demonstrated that the provision of electricity is not rocket science. With the right political will, resource application and dedication, we can eradicate darkness from our land by a Government that is committed and cares.

This project is also very strong evidence, if any is required, of the power of the private sector to drive change in any society and our Government takes pride in this project and the many other PPPs that it has enabled, to expand the opportunities in this economy. http://www.tundefashola.com/archives/news/2011/05/25/20110525N01A.html

Smokin Hills Golf Resort is located at Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State. If you're a visitor looking for a place to tee-off the day's stress, or a golf enthusiast searching for an international standard golf course, take a trip to Smokin Hills Golf Resort. It blends the modernity of a golf course, with the tranquility of an ancient town. The greenery at this resort is particularly breathtaking in the morning, against the back drop of smoke that wafts in the air, just after dawn. The multimillion naira golf course has been carefully carved out of 140 acres of surrounding jungle and rolling hills, which emit smoke early in the morning, the phenomenon from which the resort drives its name. It was built by Chief Michael Ade Ojo of Elizade Group in 2012.

"Certainly this is the most ambitious golf facility in Nigeria and West Africa, in modern times. Smoking Hills is a golfers' delight - every hole requires deft play and the course is a physical challenge. I salute Chief Ade-Ojo whose personal resources gave birth to this wonderful course. It's still evolving but in another 3 years will certainly be one of the must-play courses in Africa. Foooorrre!" https://hotels.ng/places/sport-arena/854-smokin-hills-golf-resort

Smokin Hills is located on the outskirt of the quiet town of Ilara Mokin, 15 minutes drive from Akure the capital city of Ondo state. The resort has a golf course of 140 acres and is the leading endurance private golf course in Nigeria, with standard facilities which includes a practice area, driving range and a Par 3 course for beginners.

This 18-hole fully matured golf course, was built to the latest PGA standards. It is presently the biggest in Nigeria and proudly one of the most challenging in Africa. It was opened for play in 2012, and was built by the Chairman of Toyota Nigeria Limited, Chief Michael Ade Ojo, who has as one of its aims, to mould future stars from the course. Ade-Ojo himself has said that the golf club was on course to being the number one golf club in Africa in a few years.

He said that plans were on to build a six-star hotel at the resort to make it a haven for golfers and tourists, adding that the golf resort in Ilara-Mokin has the potentials to host a European PGA event due to its breathtaking facilities and adherence to international quality. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/sports/smoking-hills-golf-course/135219.html

Cranium One Is Lagos’ Latest Co-Working Space | BY BANKOLE OLUWAFEMI |

There are tons of co-working spaces cropping up in Lagos of late. And the latest one is Cranium One, a space that is outfitted with glass-covered private offices, a “hot desk” that is intended to seat about ten roving co-workers, and fixed desks with inbuilt storage for the more permanent types, who want flexibility without the accoutrements or costs of a private office.

Cranium One is the creation of a quiet but familiar face on Nigeria’s internet business scene, Olaotan Towry-Coker, who is also the founder of Afritickets and Zandalu.

Most entrepreneurs have had to face the challenges of struggling to rent, build or own an office space, in order to launch their businesses. In a city like Lagos, such spaces are often quite expensive and the rents eat deep into the pockets of small start-up businesses. Today, co-working spaces is making it easier for several small and medium scale businesses, to set up and run their operations, effectively at an affordable cost.

Electricity, security and internet services are often part of the packages offered by co-working spaces, to entrepreneurs and start-ups. These days, most incubation hubs in Nigeria, also offer co-working spaces as part of their plans. Technology innovations have helped small, medium and big companies to improve their operations, and work from almost anywhere.

One of the notable co-working spaces in Lagos is The Circumference, located in the Surulere area of Lagos, which was established by Fehintola Akin-Oluwole, in May 2016. The facility currently hosts a sizeable number of entrepreneurs. It is said that the founder Akin-Oluwole got the idea to set up the space, when she was on leave two years ago and was looking for a conducive place to work on the Lagos mainland. After searching for a while with no luck, she resolved to set up one. The facility provides flexibility of work and play, a space for like-minded individuals to interact, exchange ideas, network and generally strike the right balance.

They offer office spaces and allied services which help entrepreneurs to manage business overheads, while saving time and keeping a professional image. In addition to virtual offices, they have serviced workstations and offices that are almost fully set up, and ready to use. Also included in their packages, are front-desk and general facility management services.

Who said this company was an Igbo-owned firm? It was established with Chinese investment. The Managing Director, HongXing Steel Company Limited, Mr. Feng Zheng Ke, is a Chinese m
an, just like most of their management. It has branches in Lagos, Aba, Ilorin. They produce Billets and Iron Rods. It is owned by Inner Galaxy Group, a Chinese consortium.
this is matter that must be treated with urgency, because this is typically a form of modern days slavery/forced labour.
the Nigerian social Ware fare commission has to intervene because this report from inner Galaxy still Company is no lie but truth because the evidence as show case by the aggrieved has no trace of graphical mutation but real without artistic work.
